planning a trip-? about kinds of pants to take. Just blue denim is easy. For me always just jeans casual. Now the questions and opinions-

Do you find black jeans to be a little more dressy-or that you can dress them up a bit like with nicer tops. blazers, footwear, etc.?

How about white jeans and colors or patterned ones?

Are cargos and utility pants in the same category as standard blue denim, or maybe even more casual?

To me pants like chinos are a bit more dressy when paired with nice tops, dressier jackets, etc.

Do you wear heels with jeans?

What do you wear for things like -casual no jeans?

I have a really nice pair of black ponte pants but am thinking it may be too warm for them in the daytime.

Imo, black jeans CAN be more dressy, if the cut is neat, because they can almost pass as non-jeans, BUT they have to be very saturated black, and my experience with black jeans is that they fade quickly.

I think any jeans CAN be dressy, if the wash is saturated and the cut is neat and tailored. White jeans to me are inherently dressier-looking for some reason.

To my eye, cargos and utility pants are more like a casual pair of jeans, but again the styling makes a difference - my friend once dressed up with camo cargo pants, but she had a dressy blouse and high heels on - so the overall effect was dressy.

I think it depends on the jeans. The ones Angie posted are dressy jeans. I wear my cargo and utility pants to very casual events. But they are casual pants.
Black jeans seem dressier to me unless they are faded, ripped, etc.

Cargos and utility jeans are in the same category as standard blue jeans.

I sometimes wear heels with jeans. I think most kinds of shoes can be worn with jeans.

If I was asked to dress "casual, no jeans", I would choose one of these solutions:
● dressy pants
● soft, comfortable skirt--kneelength or midi
● soft, relaxed dress (e.g. sweater dress in winter and simple printed long dress in summer)
● palazzo pants or harem pants

If you want specific advice for what pants to bring, it would be helpful to know a little about your trip, for instance where you are going and when, and whether it is business, pleasure, or both.

I think I reached a point where I can say I'm a seasonned traveler.
1) First, take with you the denim that has the most classical/conservative cut while still be representative of your style - or that meshes well with it. For me, that's a bootcut with a little more leg room. Boring at home, ultra useful while traveling.
2) Second: black is most useful, then denim blue (mid-tone, or alternatively grey).
3) White jeans are fun at home but I find it difficult to travel in them because of how dirty they get, and also for another reason: when I travel I tend to get swollen limbs, and then I get self conscious. But that's personnal. Another issue for me with white jeans is the reduced footwear options, either that or the extra footwear it forces me to bring.
4) Cargos are extremely casual, actually for me they sometimes end up as pajamas!

I feel dark jeans are more formal, more ‘indoor life.’ If such a thing can be said. Cargo/utility, I say depends on the fabric. I mean, you can get the style in a silky fabric...
