One of the greatest changes in my wardrobe since joining YLF is the addition of several red essentials. I now think of it as a signature color for me - thanks to Angie and YLF for encouraging it! Now I have a red coat, dress, skirt and jeans, and red patent flats. I'm looking to add a red bag, a red sweater, a red blazer or even a suit over the next year or two. That way I can incorporate red into almost anything I wear. Red is also one of the trend colors this season, so I intend to wear my red pieces to - pieces!
The addition of the red skirt inspired to create a new capsule based on Angie's formula 3 bottoms + 6 tops + 2 toppers + 2 pairs of shoes + belt, scarf and bag. I'm adding a dress and an extra belt. (Snake and leopard is not a good look in my book, so a neutral black belt is needed, too). I chose a color scheme based on red, cream, brown and black with burgundy as accent.
#1 My selection:
Tops: Cream silk blouse, burgundy turtle neck, black merino v-neck sweater, cream neck sweater, leopard shirt, taupe/black striped tee
Bottoms: Red pencil skirt, floral A-line skirt, red jeans
Toppers: Stone/taupe moto jacket, stone trench coat
Shoes: Red patent flats, stone suede booties
Red fit-and-flare dress
Burgundy bag, snakeskin belt, black belt, scarf in cream with red dots
Last time I tried all 60 possible combos, but now I din't have the luxury of enough time for that. I'm showing you three outfits with each bottom and the dress, and I focused on creating outfits that was a little challenging. For that reason, the cream silk blouse is only featured once, although it is incredibly versatile and also a very comfortable and favorable choice.
#2 With the red pencil:
2-1 Red+burgundy is a new color combination for me. Does it work?
2-2 Pencil + sweater is a new favorite and I will be wearing this a lot this season
2-3 Going classic with flats, v-neck and trench
#3 With the floral skirt:
3-1 Pattern mixing and layering: The cream sweater toned down the leopard which was rather overwhelming next to the skirt.
3-2 More pattern mixing: Stripes, floral and snake. What do you think?
3-3 Retro ladylike with turtleneck, floral, trench and flats
#4 With the red jeans:
4-1 Cream silk blouse, snake belt and booties
4-2 Layering again: The black v-neck over the leopard shirt
4-3 Another take on the red+burgundy. I prefer a layer on top of the turtle neck to finish the outfit
#5 With the red dress:
5-1 The dress only topped with the leather moto and paired with booties. An outfit that only can be worn right now, in a couple of weeks it will be too cold. I love the simplicity, and this is possibly my favorite.
5-2 Layered over the leopard shirt. The belt is an "extra"
5-3 Yet again exploring the burgundy+red. Do you think it works?
Final comments: I think this capsule is more successful than my first capsule. It will be easy to swap out the trench for the red coat when it gets colder, and to add tights. I can also easily wear my brown booties, or black boots/chelsea boots with this. My other bags will also match very well, and I have several scarves that could work, too. Another variety is to add a crisp white shirt. All these outfits are very wearable in my lifestyle.
It was a great help to have a clear color scheme to work from. I also love the mix of cotton, wool, silk and leather in this capsule. The burgundy turtleneck is maybe the piece I'm the most uncertain about, but on the other hand, a bright red would have been more boring, and a black one would be more predictable. This capsule excites me far more than the other one did.
Thank you for reading! Any and all comments are highly appreciated as always.
