I know I said no more dresses, BUT .....

It looks like DH is getting his heart's desire and we will be taking a cruise this summer to the Caribbean. (Haven't booked yet but it is likely.) Rates are not bad, and I've decided to give in and - I hope - not hear any more about cruising. (One can hope.) No offense to cruisers; I have taken one short cruise and it was fine. But I am an introvert and much, much prefer to vacation in small hotels in off-the-beaten path locations. But I married an extrovert who likes big things. Sometimes you have to compromise.

Anyway, I saw this dress at JCrew during a promotion and it seemed like a great option for dinner (since I don't do true glam). DH encouraged me to go for the bright citron rather than black. It just arrived and I love it. Hope you do too!

I feel ya' on the cruise - they have never been my thing either. Except Alaska, which is a lower-key thing. But compromise is necessary - and truthfully, some of the best trips we have taken have been ones my husband chose.

What a great dress - and I bet you look like a million US $ in it! DH and I have a running joke about cruises - which involves one of us not coming back or mysteriously going missing, as one does on a cruise. I think I would have a tough time on one - with all of those people lined up in deck chairs drinking cocktails while watching their shrieking children in the pool. So do you want to go now? I'm teasing. I bet there are quieter, smaller boats where you can sit on a balcony outside your room and read a book and do yoga for 8 days. Tell me about the fabric of the dress- is it slinky silky or cotton-y?

That dress is super cute! It has kind of a cross between tom girl and '60's cocktail glam! Seems like you'll be able to wear it lots. Yes, tell us what the fabric is like. What is the lining like?

I always find that doing things I wouldn't originally be drawn to turn out to be life changing experiences. So you never know. I've only taken one cruise and it was with a club in HS. I think it was more of a mid sized ship. I'm an extrovert, but I can't stand the thought of one of those big mega-cruises. I hope you find something you'll enjoy!

Fantastic dress. I would just be taking a big pile of books with me, enjoying sunshine and warmth, and hoping I did not have to sit at a table with people I didn't know.

You know, a YLF cruise might be fun. I have never even thought about taking a cruise, but that could be just the thing to break out of winter! Viva could model her dress for us, and Angie could give her poor feet a much needed rest. (We'd make sure a foot masseur was on call.) We'd also make sure a cozy library was available for the introverts, with plenty of books and tea on hand. And for the extroverts, shopping of course!

I love the dress and the color! I, too, am not at all the cruise type but have nonetheless been roped into a couple for extended-family events. I decided the best way to enjoy them was to make the most of being out on the ocean. That mean being outside or at least looking outside as much as possible. I found a quietish deck chair on the upper level (away from the pool) and read 3 entire books during one 5-day trip. I'd advise getting a cabin with a window so you can stay in your room without feeling like you're in a closet.

Most people on cruises sleep in, so if you get up early you will have a peaceful and uncrowded interlude. Also many ships have a library room that is fairly quiet. You can also avoid crowds by forgoing the official ship-sponsored outings when you're at port. Every major port has kiosks with tons of independent tours for sale, or you could just hire a taxi or walk around and experience the local color.

Actually, we never sleep in while on a cruise because we need to eat breakfast and it's only open during certain times.

I can really imagine you in the dress, it is beautiful and so versatile, could be dressed up or down. So glad that you chose citron. Sometimes the holidays where you aren't expecting so much, can be the best ones. I would take a good stash of books.
Brooklyn my husband is not watching sports either (amazing to find an Australian male with this characteristic), something that I too am grateful for.

Carnival has an adults-only Serenity deck where you can go relax. That's where we like to go. The nice thing about a cruise is that you can do as much or as little as you want.

I saw the frock yesterday. It's almost neon - which I like, and hope you do too. It's also quite short, which is a deal breaker for me unless it's worn over jeans, but could be fine for you.

Agree with comments that there are lots of options for serenity even on cruise. Sea and sky. In ports you can people- watch and window shop or her cruise staff to identify an activity that's more your style - a secluded beach or nature walk or quiet cafe.
Also though I struggle with travel capsules, it is a great opportunity to wear lovely fun colorful resort clothes.

I've lost track of how many cruises I've been on, although I don't love them. What other way would I have ever sailed through the Straits of Magellan or visited the Falkland Islands?

Cruise staffs provide endless entertainment--and it is a great time to pamper yourself with pedicures and try stuff you probably wouldn't do at home.

DH and I always find plenty of time to read while sailing. In fact, I think it was the cruise to Alaska where DH, who seldom reads a book at home, read an entire 800+ page book.

On our last couple of cruises we've done Anytime Dining. I think I prefer that.

Love the dress. It's perfect for a cruise dinner. The version in Coral Reef is so tempting, even though I've sworn off dresses.

Will you show us how the dress looks on? I'd love to see you in it.
