I've never written a post from my iPhone before but I can't risk forgetting about this. Sitting on the tram with me right now is a girl wearing not only leggings as pants, but wet look leggings as pants. And then for some reason she is wearing hose as socks underneath with ballet flats. Am I being close-minded in just not getting this look?

FWIW I saw a girl today walking around with leggings as pants, a singlet/tank top (sans bra) that only just met the waistband of her leggings, and ugg boots... today's temp was WAY too high to even be considering slippers even if the rest of the ensemble hadn't been so *interesting*

Heheh katiepea I was out at the comedy festival tonight and the comedian I saw was talking about how some people the world over have the same DNA just different accents....bogans, knackers....it was very funny but maybe you just had to be there herh!

Not to one-up you Tam but I have the bad outfit story to end all bad outfit stories: a woman the other day on the street was wearing her dirty sweatpants tucked into mid calf toe socks with flipflops.

These outfits sound terrible; however, it seems like leggings as pants has become pretty mainstream. Personally, I think they only belong under at least a long tunic, but I see people wearing them as pants so frequently I don't know if it bothers me anymore. Sometimes it can look cool, a la Blake Lively, but that takes a certain person to pull it off and the right combination of items.

Without the disastrous styling and weird combinations, do leggings as pants bother as much?

Sometimes it's not so bad, but I've seen things that no one should see in public. I don't think basic black would be so bad, but those weird grey ones look especially strange as pants. They show everything. I think people sometimes don't realize that their shirt has ridden up in back. :O

I find leggings as pants offensive in all situations. You are literally running around without proper bottoms! Why not just traipse about in hosiery or shapewear? And the camel toe and VPL are just nasty.

What kind of leggings are these people wearing? Sounds like they need new underwear, Maya, in addition to new leggings! Some leggings I have seen are really thick, so I guess I just don't get how they are offensive IF worn with the proper length top. I've seen some pretty terrible "pants" out there that are much more offensive than leggings.

I mean, they are basically the same as exercise clothes for the most part - are they offensive? Maya, how do you feel about tunic length shirts?

I'm just curious about such a strong reaction. (I don't personally wear them as pants ever.)

Leggings are basically skin tight knit pants, so they show everything. Every lump and bump.

As I said, it's like running around in hosiery. No one does that, so why with leggings? They are not THAT much thicker, like ponte pants.

I just find them gross looking and unflattering. It's not that hard to avoid looking gross--just wear a top that covers your hiney! Leggings are good for tops that are too short to be worn as a dress but long enough to be a tunic, or for certain types of dresses. I love leggings but boy are they abused.

Maya - I do agree with you about what they should and should not be worn with! I admire your passion.

I see so many leggings worn as pants that I don't have a strong reaction anymore. I personally wouldn't wear leggings with anything shorter than mid-thigh, but it's one of those fashion fallouts - like in the early 00s when everyone wore low-rise jeans with short tops, which also was quite a sight.
