A tentative step into tulle - YouLookFab Forum

I was looking enviously at others wearing their tulle skirts and found this one online. Its tulle panelled and I do like the wide waistband. I really want to make it work. It seems to work better tucked in than with the shirt loose because of the waistband. I tried tying the white blouse.

I think with this new love of skirts, I need to find some nice woven tops as blouses don't work with skirts as well. Any ideas on the best ways to style it. I don't think this would work with sneakers but am looking for some more black boots as I get a lot of wear out of my brown ones. The ones here are old ones from the cupboard.

Very pretty tulle skirt - lovely print and shape! I prefer tucked version and love it with denim jacket. White blouse works well too .
Untucked tops need some focal point higher - like necklace/pendant - to balance the proportions ( or banded top like @Angie showed before ). Looking forward to more outfits with your new addition!

It’s a great skirt! Are the flowers pale pink and silver? Tucked in tops of those colours will work too, if you like those colours near your face.

That is a beautiful skirt on you. I am not sure if you have Zara where you live, but they make my favourite basic knits, I recently bought this light green one for spring, which I wear tucked into skirts. The other item I bought from Zara is this cropped white shirt - which is not so cropped on me (I am 165cm tall) and so it is a nice top to wear with skirts and no tucking required. Both of these are available on the Zara Australia website.

@ slimcat - good points about the necklace or pendant. I don't think about things like that. I wonder if a long scarf would work as I am more likely to wear it. I will look for the post by Angie about the tops. Thanks.
@lozz_oz I can't see any silver...they are varying shades of pink and plum. I could wear plum near my face but I'm not usually a wearer of pink.
@bijou. Thank you for the suggestions. I do have zara near me. At the moment we are in lockdown so I couldn't get to the shop but I'll see if they are available online. I am about 167 cms tall so it probably wouldn't be so cropped on me either.

Now I know you like juxtaposition much more than I do, and our styles vary. I think a pale pink shoe and maybe top would be stunning. I have these pale pink leather sneakers…

I love this skirt! I have a slightly similar one that is a favourite. I wear it with black or metallic footwear only. I like the top with the waist band. I would wear it like that or with an untucked t-shirt/blouse but not as long as your untucked one, but not cropped either IFYKWIM. I tend to wear darker tops with mine, black or a black graphic T.

Ooh, love the skirt, Sally! Just beautiful. Agreeing with Star about a graphic tee -- it offsets the sweetness of a tulle skirt in a pleasing way.

I love tulle skirts! And this one if fab….i do think this would look great with sneakers!
I love the version with the denim jacket, and that got me thinking about swapping out the white shirt in #4 for a denim shirt. Also have you tried the white shirt open but layered over a fitted singlet (i think I’ve used the correct term, in the US we call it a tank top)

Very pretty skirt! I like all your versions but my least favorite is the untucked one - I think it is just too long. Love it with the jean jacket and the white shirt.

What a gorgeous skirt! I agree that it would look great with simple knits and graphic tees. To me, it also begs for a leather moto jacket, and stompy boots.

Cute skirt! Fab with the shoes. I like #3 and #4 best! Try a square knot when you tie the shirt at the waist.

I was ALSO thinking a graphic tee would look great--that's how I'd personally choose to style a tulle skirt. And I agree that the tops looks better tucked or tied.

What a fabulous skirt for you--love it! My two cents re. styling this: I would go with a welted top or a slightly cropped boxy top that comes to your hips.

Thank you all for the great suggestions. It seems graphic t-s and short tops are the way to go. I am now looking for graphic ts and perhaps shirts that are shorter and have a band perhaps, or a blouse like the one Bijou suggested.
@Jenni NZ those are great sneakers. That is one way I would wear pink as I'm not keen on having it near my face. Perhaps it would be a good change from white or black to incorporate coloured shoes.
@cat 2 - I haven't tried blush. I know I can wear dark plum.
@kkards - I love those pictures. I was thinking I couldn't get away with sneakers but I'm going to try it. I think the denim jacket would enable me to lighten it so I could bookend with lighter sneakers.
@Tanya I have a warmer moto jacket and I think this material is such that I could wear the skirt all year round.
@Angie I just checked what a square tie looks like and Jonesy I had to look up welted top.
