Right o'. So I suck at online shopping. I get all squeamy, esp. when I really like something specific. I emailed about sizes about this dress below (found by brilliant annagybe).

Agustin wrote back to me and said he made his co-worker, size 2, try it on and that it fit big. But he also said it was meant to fit loosely. I generally wear a size 4, but you know how it is: In New York sizes, I'm a *smart fat girl.*

What would you do? Size 4 or size 6?

Can you ask for specific measurements? That might be more helpful to figure out the right size.

Is this available anywhere else so that you can read reviews on sizing?...If not, I would go with the 4 since it is one size up...You don't look like a 6 unless this is a really strange cut dress...Hope this helps..

In most cases where there's uncertainty, especially when there's free shipping both ways, I order both of the likeliest sizes knowing that I'll send back at least one. (This is after I do what crutcher suggests and stalk reviews to pick which two sizes...)

Aww, didn't realize that! But then, I didn't realize I should use my own solution until much later than I should have. I was a slow fashion student.

It is a great dress. Hard to know what size to buy online. I have every size in my wardrobe.

I think it depends on where you are larger and where you are smaller. If I'm between sizes, I should order up in jackets (broad shoulders, and I hate not being able to move my arms) and jeans (athletic thighs) but down in skirts because my hips are narrow and skirts don't need to accommodate my thighs. For instance.

Also, that dress looks so much like one of my mother's favorite dresses from when she was my age.

It sounds like you are emailing a specific person who is hands on with the dress? I'd send him your measurements to see how they compare with the co-worker! Then surely he can advise pretty well from there.

well, it might be a whole lot more useful to get him to measure the dress - waist, armpit to armpit, width across back shoulders, back waist length. This last is really good for figuring out if the waist of the dress is going to work with where your own waist is. Also depends on how much or little you want to blouse a dress like this. If you do want to blouse it, make sure the back waist length is several inches lower than your own measurement. You can figure out your back waist by measuring any waisted dress you own if you don't have another person handy to help out. It's usually from the bump on the back of your neck to the waist.
Then would be good to know where he was starting to measure from.

I agree about getting the measurements. Otherwise, I usually find its easier to tailor things that are too large rather than too small... And oversized is in now, right?
