It's that time again for many of us--time to find gifts for family near and far. I've labeled this "urgent", because I want to make purchases before items sell out.

Over the weekend I sent my sister a text with links to pj salvage boot/slipper, fleece pj jumpsuit, and this cardigan. She said "cute for apre ski" and I thought I was all set. Then I tried to order. The boots are out of stock in every size and pattern

These boots are the closest similar, but they are pink, possibly metallic. The onesie is still in stock, but I think I'd rather get her a top and bottoms because really, if you're tired and chilly from skiing, do you want to take off your cardigan and bare your top half just so you can go potty? I don't think so, There are quite a few options for pants. I thought these picked up on the "geometric" theme and go into the boots easily.

What do you think? Will these pieces from three different brands go together well enough to make a cohesive set? Be honest!

I totally agree with you about the jumpsuit, just thinking about it made me feel cold - does your sister like pattern mixing? If so, I think the lighter grey color of the legging will go better with the top. If she doesn't like pattern mixing then how about this solid one: https://www.nordstromrack.com/.....a-pants?co

I feel with a patterned top and topper with patterned yolk, solid colour bottoms would be best to make it look like a set and also to give respite to the eye. So blue bottoms like in the pic with the top and not the stripes grey bottoms of the first pic...

Two solid votes for less busi-ness, so I'm taking another run at it. The pants JP picked out are great, but I'm unfortunately already a tiny bit over my budget, so can't go up another $15. These are my top two. What do you think?

I like both. In fact, I like both enough that I am considering the ones on the left for myself. Great find.

My pleasure I like both, but the grey color is better with the colors in the top and pink booties. I think black might be too high contrast.

Yes. JP is right. I hadn't put all the pieces together in my head.

From the first set, I like the top on the right (pink and white geometric) but I don’t think the pants (black geometric) go well with it, so I would pick something solid for the pants that matches one of the colours in the top.

Does your sister like dark colours or light colours?

Smittie, she tends to wear strong colors. I had to look through her Facebook photos to check. I see lots of bright blue and ivory, a little bit less black and red, and some colors like these (she’s on the left in the group of three, in a dress I got her. She was delighted when she opened it)

Actually, thinking through her style makes me more confident in the original choice of pants. The piece of the original four that looks least like her (though I’d wear it) is the top. If it reads “washed out” the way I think it will, and not “pastel” as you predict, it’ll work. She wears ivory/cream, so the jacket should be good for her. She’s always cold/her husband is always hot, so I think she’ll want to wear it. In the original post I explained that my choices are constrained by the booties. I think she will like them, as an item, but that’s how she ends up with the top.

At any rate, they have a 90 day return policy and I’ve ordered three pairs of pants, from which she may select.

Coming back to this an hour later.

A red fair isle top would go well with the cardi and solid pants, but then what to do about the booties?

Ok, I thought the cardigan was sold out.
The cardigan, fair isle bottoms and pink booties seem to match, to my eye.
I think cozy things will be a hit.

I think the one thing combo that doesn’t work is the fair isle bottoms with the washed out top. The patterns are too similar in scale.

I just realized I made a mistake reporting her colors a couple comments ago. I left out black (and repeated a different color).

Good point on the scale. There is another pattern of the original pants with smaller scale that could be better.

ETA: smaller pattern is sold out in her size.I thought about replacing the top with a solid color, but then there's nothing to tie in the booties.

ETA this find might work with everything.
