A sad goodbye

Bijou

Yesterday was incredibly hard as our beautiful Westie Bijou suffered a stroke which resulted in her having recurrent fits. We let her pass away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was 13 and brought so much joy and happiness to our family.

Slim Cat, Janet, Taylor, Jasmine and Sisi. Thank you for your lovely messages. Losing my fur baby is hard, I just have to remember all the wonderful moments which were too many to count. Even the day before, after breakfast, Bijou had a roll on the rug and looked the picture of contentment. Dogs are so good at living in the present and making the most of what each day brings. I miss her terribly, but am thankful that her death did not involve undue pain or suffering. I am honoured to have her name and picture as my Avatar on this forum. Little Bijou will always hold a special place in my heart.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry! I'm crying reading this. I hope Tippi and Sophie are greeting her. It's been almost a week for me and I'm still not used to not seeing little Tippi everywhere at my feet, so I know this has got to be so very hard for you. Huge hugs to you.

Suntiger and Janet, it is nice to think our pets are together in a better place. Bijou has two sisters, both Westies that have preceded her, Dana and Clancy.

Janet, I really feel for you too. It is so hard losing our little shadows. Covid lockdown meant I spent much more time at home with Bijou in recent months. She loved having us all at home with her.

Oh, Bijou. I am soooo sorry. That is gutting news, and my heart goes out to you. These very special doggie family members are incomparable, and imprint on our hearts forever. They are so brave, strong, selfless, comforting, and loving. They know what goodness and kindness means, and we learn from them. Dogs are the best.

Bijou - so sorry to hear this. It is comforting that there was not prolonged pain and illness, and I love what you said about our pets living in the present. Doesn't make this loss, and the coming days of adjustment any easier, I know. I am comforted constantly by just the very presence of our cats moving around in our house. Sudden absence is so sad. Thinking about you.

Ladies thank you so much. My forum friends were the first to know, I found it easier to type rather than say out loud that she had gone. Your good wishes and sympathy means so much and helps with the healing process, which always takes time. You have given me the strength to tell my circle of friends and family. Bijou was adored by them all, most still thought of her as being young because she was always so playful and high spirited.

My 7 year old Westie, Margot, is loving extra cuddles and is great support to us all. She is more subdued than usual and is wanting to sleep in Bijou’s basket and puts her head on Bijou’s favourite stuffed toy. Getting Margot and my son through the loss of this family member is also helping me to stay strong.
