To V-Neck or Not to V-Neck? Added photos without sweater underneath

In honor of Angie's blog post I searched to see if I had any V-necks for this season. I found a perfect weight one for today's warmer temperatures, texture rich.
But... Is it a nay for my body? I have on a Joie cream mixed media sweater under it, pearls to help fill in the neckline. As the photos go on I added layers for out-of-doors, a warm scarf and satin puffer vest with furry hood detail. Please let me know what you think. Is the whole thing too maximal? Too bah? Should I pass on the V-neck?
ETA: last 2 photos of sweater with lower neckline tank under it.

The main reason I don't prefer a v neck is if I lean over you can see my navel, and I get cold in winter. Your outfit solves both of those issues. I do have a couple of v neck sweaters that I put a tee under. I love your layering, and the boots are really great. Don't get rid of any parts of this outfit. Instead, repeat it!

I think it looks great. I particularly like the tonal outfit with all the layering. I might switch the bag for something that repeats the tones of the outfit so that you have a fully cream/beige outfit.

I think this is a nice tonal and textural outfit, which is not too maximal to my eye (not that there's anything wrong with maximal to me). The layer definitely minimizes the effect of the v neck.

V's aren't your best neckline, Joy. But you have masterfully doctored this to work. You clever thing. NICE.

I love this outfit. Love the cream tones. Gorgeous on you. I wouldn't call this a v neck outfit because of the crew neck top underneath but it is your call.

Interestingly I like it with the necklace, and then with the jacket and scarf, but less so with the scarf and no jacket. I am not sure why.

I think the layering works well, it is subtle being tonal. You wear light neutrals so very well.

This outfit is super fab. I like the sweater on you, and I think you've made it work well by layering with the crew-neck tee. I like it even better with the scarf, which obscures the v-neck, though. I like your repetition of snakeskin in the booties and bag, with the bag echoing the dark pants as well. Such a beautiful look overall!

It's an awesome outfit, but with that top underneath it, it doesn't read as a v-neck -- especially since the two tops are close to the same colour. You'd need to have skin showing to get the v-neck look, I think.

My reception is iffy today so I am going to respond a little at a time.
First thank you all for your encouragement and thoughts. As Angie observed,V necks are not my best and I usually avoid them. This sweater was an impulse buy some time ago. I loved the oatmeal color, texture and side zippers as well as the cotton/ linen yarn. It transcends seasons depending on what I wear under it. Therefore, I overlooked the neck shape.
BC, thank you. Putting on and removing layers can be so useful in staying comfortable through the day. I dog walked with all the layers shown but now, inside about 2pm, I'm comfortable without the scarf and vest layers. Later I will need them again.
Firecracker, I value your thoughts. I like it best with the scarf too, which is also of a cotton/linen blend. I almost went with pewter metallic booties and bag but liked the snake booties better. The jeans are a coated grey denim and lighter than they appear in the photo but fairly dark grey.
Robin, I love wearing these boots. They do make a statement.
Suz, yes, this neckline will look strange on me without an under layer. I'm so glad that you think my cheat works.

JAileen, Jane, smittie, always trying and Khris, thank you for your comments and I'm glad that the layering works. Just a few minutes ago I added the scarf back because it was getting cooler with the sun going down.
Delurked, I'm happy that the maximalism of texture and tone look ok to you.
Rachylou, Angie and Style fan, I know that this is not the way a V neck is supposed to be worn, but it is the way that works best for me. Usually it is either an under layer or scarf/necklace rather than both, but I do cheat to wear this unflattering style of neckline. Angie, I'm thrilled that you like the pearl necklace. It was much admired today by DGS who called the pearls "Bon bons"

I like your cheat a lot Joy. I personally would go for just a slightly more scooped neckline underneath the V neck, if you have one. I think yours is quite a high crew neck which, to my eye, creates too much fill in, especially up around the shoulders. The outfit as a whole is super fab.

Why is it that this type of neck does not look good on you?

I do think that the v-neck and the sweater underneath compete with each other.

Brooklyn, thank you for the suggestion. I agree that lower neckline under the V would look better. I have tank tops with that neckline to wear as an under layer but not a sleeved tee. A wardrobe hole.
Sweet Ledonna, you can have no idea how hard it is to look good with a flat chest. I look like a boy in V necks. In fact, my chest does not fill out scoop necks either, so that if I bend a bit, the whole neckline gapes forward and I may as not well be wearing a top. I have had some. Dry embarrassing photos taken and put on Facebook where I am bending over a bit to pet a dog. Higher necklines seem to visually enhance the chest, maybe because there is a greater expanse of fabric. I love the looks of low necklines on others.

Wonderful combo of textures and lines. It looks fabulous on you. On my phone, the crew and sweater are low contrast, so I had to go back and double check the cut of the necklines. With that necklace, I think the crew-v combo looks better than the v alone.

Like JAileen, I've had many bad experiences with exposing my navel. I stopped wearing them for years because it was hard to find v necks appropriate for smaller chests and narrow shoulders. For those modifiers, the v neck should be shallow and broad, as opposed to long and narrow.
