I finally tackled a project involving a string of pearls. Around 20 years ago I was gifted a broken necklace of antique baroque peals that had been in the givers family for many years. I had the pearls restrung - alternating them with gold beads to extend the length of the necklace.

A couple of years ago the fishhook clasp broke and the pearls have gone unworn. I set myself a ‘resolution’ at the beginning of the year to get the pearls restrung. After several months of back and forth with the jeweller during which we discussed options on how to style the pearls for optimum versatility, I have the ‘new’ necklace back!

An attempt was made to match the pearls in order to have a longer necklace, but no suitable match could be found. There were sufficient pearls to make 14 inch choker necklace. This is a good length for me because I wear crew neck sweaters and shirts, and this length works really well with my preferred neckline. I opted for a large clasp that is easy to manipulate. It also allows me to hang a pendant from the choker. I would not use the opal pendant in #3, but show it as an example. I really want a decent sized letter ‘C’ for a modern look, and possibly a single large baroque pearl for a traditional look. If I want to gain some length, I can thread a ribbon through the eyes at either end of the necklace or create an asymmetrical necklace by attaching other necklaces to the pearls. In the interim, I’ve got the pearls back into rotation as a simple choker.
