A new striped dress... what to wear with?

Hmm, I might have just commited one of YLF sins, namely purchasing an 'orphan', but maybe not? I'll try to brainstorm a little here.. After much research, I went to Urban Outfitters and got a red/crem striped dress

- I was torn between the red one and the navy striped one, Picked red in the end as it seemed more cheery and spring-like.But maybe a navy would be more versatile? I was thinking to wear it with a dark gray cardi or a darker jean jacket and a belt. But what color leggings? Black doesn't really go together, navy blue? Gray?
That's why I'm thinking of maybe exchanging the red for navy, seems easier to complement, any advice? TIA

I love the red, but the navy would be cute too! Do you have to wear leggings because it's too short on its own? I think charcoal gray would be great, or navy. Black would be fine too, I think. What about some slim-fitting white denim clamdiggers (hitting just below your knee)? That might be cute. When it's cooler, some medium-wash denim leans would be fab, I think (wear it like a tunic, basically, if it's on the shorter side).

I do like the navy; I think I would try to find some dark tights with a pattern (maybe flowers?) for the popular pattern-on-pattern vibe; but keep it simple with a solid colour. I'd also add accessories to match the colour of the tights and/or footwear, to bookend.

Wow, I didn't think about white! That would be perfect, cropped white legging jean for warmer days. I'd wear it alone too if going out for a casual dinner or meeting couple friends for a 'mom night out'.. I was thinking leggings for days when I want to wear something other than leans and tunics - which is my 'uniform' as I chase my 2 year old around. The dress itself is about 2-3 inches from my knees which I don't mind during my 'off hours' ;). Just not wanting to risk any wardrobe malfunctions in the park!
The polka dot scarf is sooooo cute, I'm a little scared of mixing patterns yet, but IT"S tempting :). Dark Patterned Tights sound yummy too.
