Does anyone else make purchases a little outside their comfort zone while on vacation?

I bought this tunic/dress while on vacation at the beach. The sales lady said it is "beach to bar" - basically a dress/coverup that works for the beach and then out for drinks or dinner after. My lifestyle isn't exactly "beach to bar" but I loved this little dress, so I got it and wore it as a dress while there. Here at home, though, it definitely feels too short to wear alone. I tried it with leggings but was hot, so I just pushed them up to a cropped length.

My questions:
Is the black too harsh against the summer look?
Is this a good legging length? Should I just get some cropped leggings instead of pushing these up?
Are these sandals as clunky and un-fab as I fear?

I think it's great that you're stepping outside of your comfort zone, Jenny. This is a cute look. I'd try it with cropped white leggings and maybe some buff/nude sandals (to bookend your blonde hair). The black sandals are fine, but a lighter color would lighten the look overall.

Cute dress! I like with the leggings, but even leggings a smidgen shorter wouldn't hurt. BTW, I know we've seen your short haircut before, but it looks so darling and perfect here!

I think the instinct to go lighter is a good one. I hear you on the outside of your box purchase

Cute dress! I do agree with the others that the black seems a bit harsh. What about a denim cropped legging? That might be a good compromise between the black you have here and stark white. Although with your light features, white would probably work great.
I'd also go with a bit more summery of a sandal. More strappy.

Thanks so much for the suggestions confirming the black is a bit harsh. I'm going to look for some white cropped leggings. Time to step even further out of the comfort zone.

This outfit is just lovely, Jenny, smashing! Knee-length leggings are perfect with it. I will say black leggings are sophisticated. If you live in a place where people are afraid of that, you might consider another color of legging.

Jenny, first of all I have to say how cute your haircut is on you!

That's a pretty summery tunic, but I do think the leggings and sandals look a little dark with it.

I think white slim clam diggers or capris and a nude or neutral sandal would look great!
White leggings, on the other hand, are a harder look to pull off. They can tend to be a little transparent and a little too "lingerie" looking, IMO.

OH MY GOSH, I LOVE YOUR HAIR! Really cute outfit, but I like the suggestions to lighten it up too. Actually I always struggle to figure out what leggings to wear with light summery outfits too.

I think Parsley is right - white slim pants would look great under this tunic. The green is beautiful on you, and it would look so fresh with white.

Gorgeous tunic and the color is lovely on you. White leggings would be great and how about over a white straight leg or skinny jean when it's not too hot.
