A Monthly Spending First

I have only spent $107 this month on clothing. This is a first for me. I do not feel good nor bad, just surprised. Has this ever happened to you?

Yes but not lately. There is so much navy blue around in Oz at the moment that I'm buying way more than usual

This is the first year I've really paid attention to line item budgeting, so I've been surprised by the fluctuations. So far in 2015, I've had 2 months below $100, one just over that. One has been just over what I consider my "monthly target". This month has been double the target! Still...5 months in, I'm significantly below the average monthly target, and I can't think of a thing I want:-)

Sharon, it could be because I am very happy with my closet right now. I see tops in the future if I find any I like. I am being very picky, though. February was a big month for me. Most likely from Spring wishes. I have no doubt July and September will be bad for me, but who knows.

Carter this is the second year for tracking my spending. Last year was bad IMO but I replaced many things. Honing my style has really helped.

I'm almost always under budget. Last year I ended up buying a bunch of extra stuff, but this year I'm using it for splurges. And I did cut the budget by a third.

Deb, I'm so glad to hear that honing you style has caused you to spend less money. It gives me hope that the same thing will happen for me (maybe next year).

I'm still trying to figure things out and have been spending a lot of money just getting the basics into place. I don't spend every month (I do two big shops a year) but it averages out to more than $100/mo that's for sure!

Good on you for spending less!

Believe it or not, yes. This winter I went 2-3 months without really buying anything for my wardrobe except for cashing in on a couple of credits. However, I think I've made up for it lately with some spring/summer refreshing. After this latest round of try-ons and returns (a couple of things should be arriving from online orders), I'll probably go back into minimal shopping mode again. It's nice to have a closet in a happy place.

I spent about $300 this month. It is the first time in 5 months that I spent anything. When I realized this, it shocked the heck out of me. Then I realized, just like others have pointed out, it is because I have been very happy with my clothes. I finally reached an equilibrium. My wardrobe has gotten much smaller, less overwhelming and I really like everything that I have. Most importantly, it all works really well for my lifestyle.

I'm aiming to go June through August without shopping. I'm not sure I need anything for fall, so I may be able to hold out even longer, but I doubt it. The temptation to update will be too strong.

I have been spending less and wearing more. I do not track my purchases (I could go back and check my credit card statements) but I know I have not bought much in the last few months. I am pretty happy with my wardrobe. There are a few holes and I looking to fill them.

I try to buy good fabric too, so even a few pieces each month really adds up

I went two months this winter without buying any clothes. If I buy what I really love, even if it is more expensive, I am less likely to keep looking and buying. I also suspect that is the secret of being happy with a small wardrobe.

For three months this past winter, I spent nothing.

And in another two months my shopping totalled around $300 altogether -- including a gift of clothing I bought for my stepdaughter.

Having said that -- I really did have everything I needed, and I prefer to shop in seasonal "binges." So it may average out.

I commend you for your restraint! Does it mean you are feeling good about your wardrobe?

That's good to hear, Deb. As others have said, that probably means that your wardrobe is in a good place.
My own budget is small and quite restrictive. Recently, I changed to a seasonal budget which allowed me to buy several items at once at the beginning of the season. The downside of that is that I now have to sit on my hands for two or three months while the budget catches up again.
