This reminded me of a sad but sweet story. Literally moments before we had to leave for my mother-in-law's funeral, I noticed that my father-in-law's jacket still had the the designer's label basted to the cuff, as well as the basting thread closing the rear vent. I knew that in the throes of grief, he didn't really care what he was wearing, but also that he would not have been happy afterward to discover that he'd attended the funeral in that state. So we snipped all the threads and got him sorted before he had to appear at the service.
I did wonder if there were other suits and jackets in his closet from decades before that still had their labels on the cuffs and vents basted closed.
