I finally figured out what is wrong with my look. It lacks polish. The make-up and hair are wrong. I desperately need a new haircut. I just can't decide what to do with in. Redoing the make-up is a priority too.
The threads on what makes a total look have really got me thinking.

Hugs, Debbie. I haven't figured out yet how to do the hair/makeup thing either in order to look more polished; and I neglect my hands and nails horribly. My younger sister gives me lots of lotions and concealers and concealer eye cream. I'm trying to remember to actually use them.

Debbie, for your hair I will suggest Helen Mirren latest haircut, it will make you look like a star. It has lots of layers, which your hair is lucking as is now, and shorter back will give you that extra face lift! I hope you do this, I'm rooting for you!!!

Debbie, I think we are constantly evolving and training our eye. So I think when I notice something I want to change it's because the awareness is growing. And that's a great thing! It doesn't always feel great, for me, when it's happening.

You DO have polish...you just need to update a bit
I am thinking forum member San has a great, easy, very wearable daily style that may just give you the polished look and feel you are striving for. Very easy to manage and looks great in a casual, yet sophisticated stylish way

Taylor, don't you think San's haircut will be a touch too short for Debbie?

I think these two cuts are quite similar Renata both short and layered, but San's is a bit weightier and will be easier for Debbie to style on her own...over the ear is a must for Debbie..mid ear is preferable...and ease of styling is also a must.:)

Isnt it strange how these things can just hit you and once you've had them you wonder why you didnt figure it out earlier! Sounds like you have some great suggestions from YLF resident Hair Guru's so cant wait to see what your decision is!

Hi, Debbie, isn't it great having your own style counsel? We are all evolving our style and when we're ready to change the next thing, I'm sure it will become apparent to us. But it is a bit uncomfortable, like all change! Have fun, remember progress not perfection (the healthy habits motto!)

Great hair suggestion already! How cool that we have hair gurus here!
If you want makeup help, I can do my best Debbie. Also, it doesn't hurt to go to Sephora sometime maybe during a week day morning and have someone make you over. Give them an idea of what you are looking for, and find someone who's makeup style you like.
I know a bit about makeup and do others' makeup, but whenever I go to Sephora or MAC I always "play dumb" because I don't want to stop learning.

I find "polish" harder to come by with curly hair, for sure. It's just so easy for it to look fuzzy, unkempt, hippie-ish, and so hard to find anyone who knows how to cut it to help avoid those things.

Debbie - I've been feeling the same way with my "polish" lately. My issue lately is that I am in full force peri-menopause and the hormone changes are altering my hair texture and skintones. I am struggling to get my hair figured out and my face is requiring more color since my lips and skin seem to be fading. Working with my hair stylist and playing with make-up is helping and I'm starting to figure it all out. Good luck with your make-over! You'll be back to feeling polished before long!

April, I completely agree about the difficulty of keeping one's naturally curly hair looking polished, especially if you live in an area that gets any kind of humidity!

I so know what you mean. I leave my hair far too long between cuts and forget about the finishing touches when getting ready. I"m going in for the whole schhbang this weekend. Once this happens Im not going to leave the house without make up!

I think your outfits are fantastic, and having a spiffy new haircut will launch you into the stratosphere!

I struggle with this question of polish, too. With wild curly hair & a middle-aged body, it can be difficult to feel really put-together. As I get older, I crave more structure and polish, but I also like a "casual dressy" look, if that makes sense. It's my biggest challenge these days!

Gosh, I think us curly-girls need to start a thread about looking polished with curls! While I'm envious of the ease of polish that straight hair gives, I still love my curls. Off to start the thread ...
