Ok, I really want to add a little something Wild West to my wardrobe. A yoked shirt would be most to my taste and most wearable... altho I think some boots or a belt or a hat would be cool.

I’ve done a tour of the local shops and they have not picked up on this trend. (What they have picked up on is mustard, red plaid, and leopard... and the look is overwhelmingly prep-punk connection over drab.)

So... I think I will have to actually shop online, which I hate. Any thoughts?

I’ve online browsed ASOS, Nordstrom, F21, H&M... sites that I feel might feature trendy... but coming up kinda short. I think genuine western wear might be too much. What else is out there?

So funny. I’ve been thinking that forcing myself to go to actual stores and try things in there could be a good way to cut down on shopping, and here you are, b***hing & groaning about online shopping.

I get that you don’t want to go full-on authentic western, but what about halfway, sites like Pendleton or Campmore. Where does Wrangler fall on your wearability scale? You could just look that label up, and look through what ever stores carry it.

Btw, I can see you wearing a yoked shirt, but to my mind, gingham is also Western. Just add denim & a belt, yeehaw.

FashIntern, how funny. I was thinking too bad Wrangler isn’t anywhere anymore. Never even occurred to me to look them up online. I will do that.

I know Wranglers is at Academy Sporting Goods around here. And also Tractor Supply, but I suspect that particular chain may not be local for you.

I like what UmmLila said. Maybe specifically but also, thinks of what has a Western VIBE but not being actual...Western. So fun to consider. How these things are re- interpreted into the current trend.

I hear you! I’ve seen way too much mustard, animal print, plaid, and dusky lilac, and very little western influence. The western influence I have seen is just so literal it doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t want to look like I stepped out of the rodeo, but I like a *touch* of it. Western Lite.

The only item I’m mad at myself for donating in the last few years was the silk Lucky Brand western shirt that got a little big on me after I lost weight (it would probably fit now again, doh!). I just did a search and found a pic on eBay — if it had been my size, I probably would have snagged it!

What a great shirt, Janet. Sometimes I miss the suburbs. No Lucky Brand for me for miles.

I wonder, Shevia, if I could find a western shirt in an ‘upcycle’ shop around here. They do tend to sell what the ‘new’ shops do. It’s an insular place. The real thrift shop would be better I think, but I’ve never seen it open!

There *is* a Mexican Western Wear shop... it’s in gang territory, lol. Obviously, I’m not afraid to go there since I know about it... but it’s awful authentic. Lol.

Lucky used to make western shirts, I imagine they still do to some degree? I saw a nice one in the thrift store the other day that I came close to buying, but I have so many plaid shirts already. Turquoise/red/tan, pearly white snaps. Snap front, yoke, and flap pockets.

I live down the road from a horse farm that is, somewhat oddly for New England, a western riding school (most of us grow up riding English), and they have big meet-ups on the weekends. Standard fashion seems to be plaid shirts (or sometimes denim) and Wranglers, Ariats or Muck Boots, and Carhartt barn coats when it's cold.

I always feel like a poser in western wear, and it's probably because I was a hunter-jumper kid.

ETA: 80s KD Lang!! What a perfect western style icon. I mean, KD Lang is just a great style icon in general.

You could try the Buckle. They have some western-style pieces.

Both Walmart and Target carry Wrangler. Don't forget to try on men's and boys. I consider lumberjack styles a subset of Western. Get jeans, stomps boots., a buffalo paid shirt and carry an ax or chain saw into that gang neighborhood.

I clearly need to come to Texas. No Cavenders or Academy here.

I tried Target. Will have to make a trek to Walmart. And try Ariat.

I should probably did in my closet... wear my turquoise jewellery. Now I’m sad I gave away my cowboy boots, although they rubbed a bit.

I'd definitely give local thrift stores a shot. I took a quick trip looking for halloween stuff and they are loaded with western wear.
