A Good Hair Stylist ETA: picture

I have to tell you all about my hair stylist--she's great! A couple of months ago, I got my hair cut shorter and then I followed up with balayage to enhance the choppiness of the style. So...balayage is expensive! And it grows out so fast on short hair! So, when I got my hair trimmed yesterday, she cut it dry and she CUT AROUND the highlights! Can you imagine? That seems so thoughtful and creative and really beyond what I could have expected. I really appreciate her!

What is balayage?

BC--It's hair painting. The stylist selects strands of hair to highlight and then paints them individually in a way that creates very gentle highlights without a definite start or stop to them--kinda ombré. It's good for showcasing texture or waves.

ETA: I guess one could do balayage for low-lights, too, and also for the really beautiful rainbow hairstyles that are popular in which the colors fade and shimmer into one another.

That is awesome! I wouldn't have even thought that was possible!
When I developed an allergy to standard hairdye, my stylist embarked on a mission to find something I could tolerate. We tested a number of things and he just wouldn't give up. I am so grateful!

Well, Angie...this is quite the terrible selfie. I am selfie challenged to say the least--which is why there aren't a lot of photos of me in this life . And there is not a bright enough place in our house to take a good pic. But here it is... The cut is a short-ish pixie. It looks a lot puffier in this photo that it feels in real life. I style it like this, also with the bangs swept down and to the side, and troll-style (sides brushed forwards and the top going up or to a faux hawk or spike. Lots of texture to play with!

My daughter does balayage but her hair is long. Luckily she only has to have it redone every 6 months.

Marilyn--selectively cutting around the highlights bought me an additional month, but I'll have do balayage every other month, I think. Not really sure that is in the budget! I did it prior to a special event, so it was a special treat for me.

Wow! It looks gorgeous, both cut and color! A great haircut makes all the difference in the world! It makes me want to stop growing out my pixie.

It is taking forever. I spend most of my time tucking my hair behind my ears, and with wearing progressive lenses a lot of the time, that isn't working well. I keep telling myself, if I have put up with it growing out for this long, what is another few weeks. You are making me me think seriously about a change!

Karen13--Keep growing it for a while! Don't chicken out! Are you getting interim cuts in various styles as you grow it out? I have a habit of cycling from short to long and interim styles--even though I would never have picked them on their own merits--help keep me from going off the rails before reaching the goal.
