A few new things- mod dress? - YouLookFab Forum

I've been working on my spring wardrobe and have a few new finds.

The first is an Ann Taylor dress. I thought the pattern was kind of interesting and maybe even mod, which is the style I'm working towards. We've been talking about style courage lately, so I'll be honest and tell you I'm a little scared of this dress. But the photo makes me braver, the pattern isn't as loud as I thought. My only reservation is that the skirt has pockets and fits a little baggier than my sheath dresses, do you think that's intentional or does it look odd? I have a black stretchy belt I could try with it if that might help define the waist more.

Second is a knit dolman top. I bought it a month ago or so and it's still too cold to wear it. From the photo I'm having second thoughts. The center pattern creates a weird optical illusion. What do you think?

The last is a thrift store find, a Halogen top. I love the color and neckline but the photo makes me realize it doesn't fit quite right (underarm area seems to bag out). Do you agree? I guess I could experiment more unless you think I should just let it go.

#1 is fine but I would try it with a waist belt. Not black though. Try a red one.

I think you are overthinking #2. It's cute.

#3. I don't know if you did this but I find making sure I pull tops down from nuderneath the breasts (grab top just under & pull down) generally eliminates the bubble thing you are worried about.

The dress looks great to me, I do not notice any pooching around the pockets. I think you wear it very well.

About the sweater, if it will bother you and keep you from wearing it, then I would not keep it. You might try styling it with a large pendant necklace, with the pendant hitting in the white space in the center...maybe your eye would accept the geometric pattern.

If the sleeves of the red jacket are not cut properly for a good fit, I say pass it on to someone whose size and shape will wear it with more comfort.

I like the dress and think the sweater just might take getting your eye used to it. The jacket fit is something I run into a lot. Makes me feel like my breasts are too low or something lol, and I'm not in any way large chested.

Thank you both. I like the idea of a contrasting belt with the dress, red would be great, maybe even patent yellow or blue! Sheila, thank you for the idea of the pendant necklace, I'll give it a try.

Thanks Mo! Yeah, that's exactly it with the fit. It's an XS so maybe it's a little small on me. I think I'll probably pass it along.

Love the dress and the top. Both prints are gorgeous!

Not so much of a fan of the jacket, but probably because its just not my style. There seems to be a lot of these around at the moment, but they seem a bit old fashioned to me.

Oh, 1 and 2 are so amazing! I don't see a single thing unflattering about them, so I hope you keep them, especially if you are leaning toward a mod look.

Just echoing what's been said. The dress and dolman top are FAB. I don't like the pucker near the seaming and sleeves on the jacket which is unfortunate because I like it otherwise.

I love #1 and #2 on you. All #1 needs is a belt, either the wide black belt you mentioned or something shiny and black or something colorful like: red, fuschia, pink, bright blue, or yellow.

I think #2 is so cool! If you want to go mod, this is mod. This will look cute with skinny jeans or a shorter black skirt (pencil or a line). This is a look very few people can pull off, but you have the slim figure for it.

I'm not crazy about #3, it's not fitting right and looks a little old. Just not as stylish as the other two items.

I totally agree that a colored belt would look great with the dress. I also agree with you that it seems a little "sacky", the belt will probably solve that. I think that it is such a fab dress, that if can be taken in a little, I would soooo do it.

I may be the lone naysayer here, but I can't say that I'm loving the dress on you. It is fine, but nothing about it is screaming "fab" to me.
Now the top... it is screaming all sorts of fabulosity! Love it!!!
What is the jacket like unbuttoned?

The dress is nice but not a 10 as Kim said. The top on the other hand is gorgeous!!! The jacket seems like a nice light weight basic for layering. I think the underarm bunching might go away if worn unbuttoned.

Before I read your post I was already peaking at the pics and thinking 'That top is fabulous'.So that's a great mod top for me .
The dress I like it but doesn't seems very mod to me.With a large red belt it would look very 40's(still not mod)
I'm not a big fan of the jacket.
It's so good that you know what kind of style you're looking for. Can't wait to see the final outfits.

Late here, but I love the bold sweater. It's my fave of the lot. It looks so current and fun! I like the dress but it doesn't compare to the sheath I've seen you wear. It looks cute though and I bet a bright belt and shoes would make it pretty awesome.

That dress is screaming for a red belt (as others have already mentioned)! I think it would also look great with an unbuttoned cardigan in a bright color with a black belt.

The top is very mod and you wear it well.

The jacket I'm not wild about. I think the fit is okay, but as others have also mentioned, it isn't very mod or as great as the other two pieces. Something simpler would probably be more suited to the mod look you are trying to achieve. Congrats on figuring out what style you like and starting to work towards it!

I loove the dress and I loove the top!! I think the dress looks fab the way it is, even without the belt (I think there's a bit of belt mania around here :). It's wonderful on you. The top is a show-stopper and looks fantastic. Jacket is meh, IMHO.
