cat2, I hear you on the fit issues! Even when my weight hasn't changed much, I find that fits can change more than they used to for me -- or maybe it is a matter of preferences. The Hobbs coat and jacket I am letting go, for instance -- they are still in great shape and I still love them, but they just feel too restrictive in the shoulder and I don't reach for them as a result. Someone else will enjoy them more. Meanwhile, some of the shoes I'm letting go feel too wide, too narrow, etc. in ways they did not before. What with all that, and some things being worn out, It's a constant shuffle.
Brooklyn, thank you! Your wardrobe is so amazing, but you have such a gift for picking iconic pieces that I can imagine edits might become more difficult. Those amazing, perfect for you hero items are super hard to let go of -- much harder than essentials. I have some pieces like that -- I can't say goodbye to them -- and the more of them I collect, the harder edits become. Yet without a good edit, everything can start to feel stale.
Jenni, super cute haircut! I once got a cut in Italy in a barber shop. It was quite an experience, so I can imagine...I also don't feel good if I have to wait too long between cuts, but sometimes (Covid period) it happens. I'd say 30 years equals a signature style for you!
Lise, I've also had that experience of buying things at the end of one season that turn out to be surprising workhorses a few seasons on. And I end up loving them all the more because I'm always congratulating myself on my foresight for picking them up when I did, especially following on what might have been a bit of guilt for not wearing them the season they were purchased!
It is so interesting that dyed hair is the norm in your area. Even though people are freer to dye or not dye here (at least in my social circles) I can understand that pressure and if dye still looks good, then why not enjoy it? But it is indeed frustrating when a product you love is discontinued. I hope you will be able to source an alternative.
Sal, thank you! I checked out your edits and am sobbing to see that navy blouse go -- I have always loved that one on you! And think it was such a terrific find. I also find it interesting that you are gravitating to jackets vs. knits after some disappointments in the knits department. Knits definitely age faster than many other items and look less good more quickly if they are not well made to start.
JAileen -- yes, some great things going in that edit but remember, most of them do not look as pristine as they do in those photos -- or they don't fit. So onwards.
Lisa, my hair is also thinning. It used to be so thick it grew outwards (no joke -- I have the photos to prove it) but in the last 3 years I have noticed a huge change, and as my hair is also fine, it's distressing. My hairdresser tells me it is still plenty thick in places and she is right -- she still has to thin and texturize to create a decent cut-- but I find that it's thinning in the part area and it makes me self-conscioius. And looks worst while wet, of course. I find super short tends to hide that problem a little more efficiently for me, and maybe something else about the cut helps to make it look thicker temporarily as it grows in. I'm also investigating shampoos for fine hair. I never used them before -- I was more concerned about frizziness. But I think I might experiment a bit with those.
