Una, I think while that coat isn't the 'perfect' fit, you can certainly make it work with skinnies as others have described.
Here's my submission to the 'feels fab, looks questionable' challenge. It's a sari, in a startling colour-block pattern (the pallu or end-piece over the shoulder not seen here, emphasizes this because it is four blocks of colour that emerge from the four coloured stripes that run the length).
The shot colours are very muted, all the kinds of shades I have great difficulty pulling off. But oh, does it feel fantastic! It's cotton, but a thicker, slubbier, softer cotton than most sarees --- those of you familiar with Indian cotton sarees will know why this is astounding when I say it is delightful in summer, needs no starch, has no transparency issues, wicks away humidity and sweat like a hi-tech garment, and is a dense enough to wrap yourself in for a mild winter. And the tasselled, heavier-weight end-piece is so easy to leave on your shoulder with no shifting and sliding no matter how active you get while wearing it.
Now if it only had flattering powers, it would have been perfect. Still, it's a workhorse.
