A "Feels so fab I don't care how it looks" purchase...

I scored this coat at the consignment store yesterday while running around town with friends. It is a little big on me, but the cut and style were SO irresistable, and my friends happily encouraged me. It's a lined tweedy material, cut very loose and swingy (it fits in the shoulders though), and the back is longer than the front, giving it this cool Victorian vibe. I can't tell you how much fun it is to stride around in it. It totally reminds me of something I would have found in a Junior League thrift store and worn everywhere back in college.

I am sure it will get some thumbs-down here for being too big and shapeless, but I wanted to post anyway so you could see that sometimes love is blind! I'm in my pjs here though I did put on lipstick to distract you all.

I am all about if it makes you that happy, you will look good in it because of how you will feel! I can see all sorts of fun possibilities, love the hem too!

What a fun coat! In its own weird way, I think it fits. The sleeves even look to be the right length. It's a bit drapey, but that's intended and part of its charm, so enjoy!

I adore the hem and I think the fit looks great from behind. I agree with Mochi - maybe it is intended to be a looser fit in the front?

I know exactly the feeling you are talking about! That glam I-am-striding feeling is money in the bank, I say.

My feel-so-fab-I-don't-care item is my vintage Helmut Lang black leather trench. It is too big, but the leather is so soft it glides through your fingers. Wearing it is like being wrapped in a cloud of supple black leather love. They will have to pry this coat off of my cold dead body, because I'm wearing it!

I also think that if you pair it with a skinnier pant, it would look even better

IK, thanks for the validation! Though that feeling is often counterbalanced by the "I thought I was hot stuff but just discovered I look like a doofus" moment... I am going to put on some real clothes and style this baby! Skinnies and quilted booties?

We all have something so you can have this one. I would have totally worn this in college too (I wore coats from a thrift store in NYC that a homeless person would not have -not meant to offend, but they were kind of awful)
With skinnies and styled intentionally it won't be sooo bad. But honestly you are a thin and beautiful woman - just don't live in it ok?

I think this is a really fun coat! It might not hurt to have the arms taken in a little. Thrifted finds can be awesome. I still remember the Pendleton blanket coat I bought for my mom @ a garage sale. It was in amazing condition and she still wears it. I'll have to post a pic sometime when I figure out how my scanner works.

I think the coat is really interesting. Love the color and the swingy quality. If you team it with a more form fitting top and pants I think it will look great!

I like the coat on you, it's very Una.

Right now I am wearing a sweater that fits the feels-so-good-even-if-its-wrong category. It got bad reviews on Nordstrom.com, but I had to defend my sloppy sweater and raved about it with 5 stars.

This is the best my sweater can look, matched to the jeans. I have the same sweater in grey and it is even more sylistically challenged.

My cat really loves these sweaters too! Whenever it lies on my bed, she makes a nest in it.

It just may one of those ironic, obviously it's too big type pieces that Angie blogged about last week (last 2 wks?) which would make it even more uber cool.
Has that old Hollywood vibe and i could see it paired with a sleek and slim cut leg and top, a hat and sunglasses.

I have an orange velvet vintage coat that I bought for same reason - don't wear it much but it lives on a dress from in bedroom to remind me to have fun every day
Next in line is a huge soft cashmere sweater for layering. I think I stole from husband.

That coat is totally irresistible. I love the swing shape and the detail on the back. I have no problem with big and shapeless, but since it is a bit wide on you, I would like to see it with narrower slacks (ha! is that a word anymore?). Narrower than your pj's I mean.

If you feel fab in something it cannot be wrong! It is a fun coat, Una. My first thought was to pair it with skinnies but then it has a certain charm with wider pants too.

You know I die for a fishtail hem! I can't wait to see this with skinnies!

The shoulders don't seem too overwhelming, so I think the trick here is going to be the fact that it is on the longer side as well as voluminous in width. I'm thinking your platform 80%20 booties or anything else that gives you lots of extra height would be AWESOME.

I just saved an oversized coat in my "scrap pic" file So I think you are a la mode. I like the back detail of your find!

I'd wear your coat with skinny pants or a long skinny skirt. And a big scarf.

Una, I would have bought this too. I would wear it with a really slim pant or skinny jeans. Or what about a knee length pencil skirt and boots! BTW, love the lipstick!
