Beth Ann inspired me to try to update some gear, and Athleta had some cute stuff, so I bit. Here are some reviews if you are interested:

This gearish bomber jacket is adorable, but very lightweight and runs SMALL. It's going back.

This skirt, which is not really gear, is FABULOUS! Scrunchy, easy, flattering, comfy. I am wearing it today!

Love this top too, a nice drapy fit and will work for office or camping. Bonus thumb holes!

Also going back is a tunic sweater which does not have thumbholes as represented and a pair of cool tights that I don't need.

Camping next weekend will be a little more fun with new gear!

Please don't tell me the thumbholes is a farce! I have been coveting an athleta sweater/sweatshirt simply FOR the thumbholes! You are going to be a Famper! (fab camper)

Wow, those are some great items, Una. I really like the tulip dress. What sort of weight is the fabric? What is the sizing? (Not that I can buy anyway....darned Athleta doesn't ship to Canada....)

I really like the drapey top and the pants, too.

I find that Athleta and gear from the GAP in general runs small. Disappointing because their stuff is so cute and for the right people, it's hardworking and well-functioning.

The tulip dress is a fab mid-weight jersey that feels like exercise wear but looks dressy. Probably doesn't wrinkle at all, would just shake out. I would have worn it to work but I realized I need more sleeved dresses since that is really much easier for me in winter. The size S fit really well. It's a little loose on top (not much, just not bodycon) and the skirt is more fitted and ruched. The color is a great deep raisin - not quite dark red, but very rich.

It's awesome. Thanks for the detail, Una. I actually liked the red, the blue, and the grey in that one. Probably dumb for me, too, since I don't have enough months for wearing it. But would pack like a dream.

If you are good with toppers over sleeveless dresses, then it truly would be great for packing, and it would be an excellent summer dress for you with the higher neckline and weight. I just had to force myself to realize that sleeveless dresses and toppers aren't a fallback for me any more...

Love everything. Like Suz - sad about no shipping to Canada. I love skirt, dress, pullover and pants. Yes that pretty much is everything.
I think the dress is a wonderful item and would work for many seasons....no enabling from my end.

I already sent the dress back! It's beautiful but I really do better with skirts. If only it had sleeves. Very flattering though, even on my IT/rect-apple shape.

Ooh, kind of love that dress too. With a jacket / cardigan, could one wear that into winter months - say with tights and boots?

Thanks for the reviews! I need to go visit them soon in person, as lately I'm between their sizes and can't safely order online. Sometimes I think I should give up pursuing dressy casual, and just happily live in Athleta-type stuff 24/7.

Also the unstinkable technology they use for some of their tops really works.

You and Beth Ann will look fab camping and be comfortable as well.

Thanks for the reviews! I think I need that long sleeved top, although it is hard to pull the trigger on cool weather gear when it is 100 degrees outside.

You're going to be camping in style..you found some great stuff. I really like the skirt and ankle pants.
A question about the bomber jacket..I've been eyeballing it for a while to wear as that elusive 3rd piece. Is it too gearish to wear with jeans, a flowy tanks and nice shoes? I like the fact that it's lightweight. Also noted that it runs small. Thanks!

JayS, it's actually a nice silky material - not like a windbreaker, but a silky jersey-like performance fabric. I would certainly wear it that way for a sporty luxe look, if only it had fit. Grrrr....

I love Athleta, but it never fits me the way it fits the models. I find a lot of gear wear is more for a rectangle than an hourglass. The Prima capris hugged my booty like a Beyonce video -- but there was gapping in my waist, which surprises me because I'm no slim-waisted pear. Still, I love to peruse the catalog and use their styling to put together my own outfits.

So glad you have gear to make you feel as fab in the beauty of Alaska as in the office. Why not? It's real life too!

I love all your Athleta choices including the dress you returned because it is sleeveless.

If you are looking for something with sleeves, JCrew has a similarly styled dress with short sleeves. (Draped top, scrunched pencil style skirt) The material is soft, it washes well. Perhaps you could check on that? It also works we'll with a lightweight draped sweater topper.

I love all these. I really think Athleta is hitting it out of the park lately. I have those capri pants and literally could wear them everywhere dressed up or down. I love that their pieces are dressy enough to go to work and can also be gear. Thanks for these reviews. I want most all of them...yikes!
