A caftan for me? - YouLookFab Forum

Hi all,

I had wanted this caftan from Anthro for a while. I think I have some fancy that I will entertain in my home in it. (Yes, very 70’s. I won’t throw a key party, but maybe I’ll serve fondue.)

It’s a little boho for me. I like boho, but in measured doses. What do you all think?

In other news… We are recovering from a flooded basement here. It was pretty bad, we lost most of our books, and we are still waiting for flood remediation because demand in this area has been so high since Ida. I was not able to go to Greece since nothing was resolved before our departure date. We are off this week still, to try to relax, but it’s frustrating because we can’t make any plans as we wait for services to come to our home. So it’s not clear if we can even get away for a night or two.

I totally understand where you are coming from with entertaining while wearing a caftan, I think this is part of our collective memory and in my daydreams I also do this
FWIW I really like the colors on you and think that the volume looks intentional and in the right places.

My sympathies on the books! That’s a real body blow, especially when so much has gone digital in the meantime.

Love this! Add strappy sandals or mules. I have a similar caftan that belonged to my mom and yes, she wore it to entertain in the 70s. Sorry about your basement and the non-trip to Greece.

I think I'd like the skirt part a bit narrower, but good colors on you. Hope you can get your restoration done soon! Pretty wall color!

I think it's fun, and (like Lisap) I think it looks great with your hair. Your texture is perfect for a French bob! And with the caftan, you look like a Parisian holding a salon. I had to laugh at the key party reference, but maybe you can hold a library-rebuilding party and ask each guest to bring you a book! So sorry for your troubles.

You look great in this and I can relate to imagining oneself as a hostess. I kept talking about that for our new house and in 3 years have hosted precisely one Christmas and my husband’s James Bond 60th, otherwise it’s just the few usual friends or family over for dinner occasionally!
I have lots of cocktail glasses I hardly use…

So sorry about the flooding especially as you have only recently mooved in if I remember well? All the books!!!:-(((. and the cancelled trip to Greece---too bad. Kaftan dresses can be very relaxing to wear, but I would take in a bit from the sides especially from hips down, and put a vent on sides(if it hasn't already?)-these helped for me feeling more chic and feminine in a head to toe kaftan dress.

You need a photo of you in that caftan, holding a tropical umbrella drink, a la Every Guest Star Ever On The Love Boat.

On to Ida: I'm so sorry about your flooding, and I'm glad you weren't already overseas when it happened! I've had a flooded basement, and I know it's a huge exercise in Frustration With A Capital F. The only thing I can tell you: keep calm, but be persistent, and keep calling your insurance company, and whoever they assign you for the cleanup. Call them every day, and be friendly, but firm.

If you can, buy or borrow a dehumidifier and/or rent a carpet shampooer (to start sucking up water, if your basement was carpeted), that's a good place to start, and feel like you're getting something accomplished.

Thanks, Mary Beth. It was two weeks ago, so we have already, pumped and vacced up the water, and dehumidified (we bought one, as our HVAC is only about to be fixed today). It’s just waiting to have our destroyed stuff removed and everything cleaned. We have asked if insurance can put pressure on the cleanup folks. They’ve stopped even responding to our requests for a new date estimate, since they blew through the first couple of estimates. The insurance adjuster is finally supposed to come soon, anyway.

All the people who work in this field are overwhelmed, I know, but our lives are on hold as we wait for even estimates of when we can get these services in.
