I don’t know if you are supposed to relieve the past in your clothing choices. Back in the early 90s before I went teaching I temped in offices. I used to dress similar to this. Two pinafore dresses one grey pinstripe and one black. White blouse black tights and platform loafers. Apparently Tori Amos is popular again and i have been driving around the city in my mums 1994 manual as my son got his licence and took my automatic, listening to the 90s hits and reliving the past. Last photo is a photo from the 90s. This is one of my pinafore dresses. It was a straight line and came down to my knees. Couldn't find a photo of the whole dress.

Oh, this is fun! I like it both without the coat and with. Lovely color combination.
I was wearing something similar at that time. I had a couple of pinafore dresses from Laura Ashley, which I wore over a white button down. And tights and loafers of course Seeing this send me down to memory lane

Super fun, and you get away with it. I had to google pinafore dress, because it wasn't in my vocabulary. I found this image...it would look great with a baseball tee or other sports shirt.

I had two colleagues come up and compliment me on the outfit this morning and one of them came out and admired my 90s car

Love it ... the white shirt under pinafore look was signature for me too, when I used to volunteer at the Amnesty International head office and wanted to look more 'proper'

The pinafore dress was SUCH a '90s look. I wore the trend in the "70s and '80s - automatically - with my school uniform

Thank you Helena. Yes it does have a 'secretarial look' about it. My friend and I fancied being in the typing pool.

Thank you Angie. My dog probably lived for another couple of years after that photo, but I got him when I was about 13 years old. And yes my school uniform was similar to this too.

oh I remember them! Used to wear a lace shirt underneath, great memories!

Also, huge compliments for your hair as your transition from dark hair to blond is amazing! I always thought you had light brown hair!

Thanks Minaminu. A lace shirt would look great too and I would still wear it like that. That photo with the dog was taken about 25 years ago. I often coloured my hair darker (even blue black and sometimes with red tones). My natural colour was probably a light brown. Actually its pretty natural these days as I haven't coloured it in over a year.

Love it Firecracker. My favourite was Tear in your Hand. "I don't believe you're leaving cause me and Charles Manson like the same iceceam". Its also the song that started her friendship with Neil Gaiman as she references him and the sandman in the song and he found out about it, and they kept popping the other into their art. I digress.

Love your cobalt blue pinafore! Like you and Angie I think we may have had a pinafore as part of our winter school uniform. Not sure I have a photo as the photo sessions were usually taken in the summer uniform.
I bought 2 pinafores again in about 2010 and wore them a lot for a good 7 years before editing them out. They were sort of tunic length and good with a tartan shirt underneath and winter tights and flats. I think there was a long enough gap between leaving high school 1978, and 2010, 32 years, for the sceptre of the school uniform to be banished!
I love your 90s redux- and I still like doing reduxes! One has to adjust them a little for ageing I guess if it’s around 30 years…

You make a good point Jenni. I guess we do need to consider how to do a redux when we are not 20 anymore. I still like the grunge look which is very popular now. I think I can still get away with boyfriend/straight jeans, graphic t, blazer and boots but will not be revisiting the black tights under the denim shorts look that I wore a lot in my 20s.

We have had a straight navy pinafore (& baby blue shirts) as a school uniform from grade 5 to 12-and hated it(as all things imposed). That been said, I wore one from a domestic designer in a more tailored fit and midi lengt,h in a charcoal grey textured knit with some elastane content (elastane being new for me at that time) all zippered down the front at my DD's Christenning. I wore it with a white blousy-shirt, and was so pleased with my figure back than, hah!:-)
