70's platforms for fussy feet on a budget

Is that too much to ask for?

I love the look of all of these clog-sandals that are coming out now but I could only wear most of them if I were feeling suicidal. I don't mind platforms but I can only be so disconnected from the ground before twisting an ankle and falling to my death. I'm not expecting these to be 8 hour shoes at all, so my expectations are modest...but it also means I don't want to spend a lot on them.

These are almost ideal because the front buckle can be widened, but I have always understood wooden soles to be less than comfortable.

These are amazing, especially in green and yellow, but the sole appears to be wood again, and they are way too expensive and probably a bit too high:

FWIW Maya, I have last year's version of the MM sandals and they are 8 hour shoes for me. They have a padded footbed and are uber comfy. I bought them after San recommended them and sized up a half.

Target has a style that I tried on the other day. I normally don't even try on Target shoes because of my fussy feet, but these were surprisingly comfortable. I am still thinking about going back and getting them if I can't find anything else:

They are high, but the wedge in front is high so the arch is not really arched a lot. I found them to run really large, so size down.

Might these work for you? The price might be a little on the high side (for me too) but I am probably going to order them soon, as Naots are by far the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. The cork footbed molds to your foot and is super supportive. Only thing is that Naots tend to run a little narrow, which is fine for me but may not be ok for everyone. For what it's worth though, my feet are narrow in back but normal in front and my Naots all fit me and my bunion fine.

Have you ever tried Dansko sandals, Maya? Not too budget friendly, but the look is similar to the first pair you posted and I KNOW they are comfortable. Good grief. Many of my clients wear them and swear by them:

This site only shows one color per page, but they have these in black, "nude", olive, and a light blue.

I saw them on Barking Dog, getting great reviews.

I can't wear super tall platforms like that, Khris. I feel a little too disconnected and unstable in them. But they sure are pretty. 1" in the front and 3" in the back is about the most I can handle.

Angie, Diana, April: I guess my problem is that all of those options *look* like comfort shoes to me, rather than fashion shoes. I know, I'm way more picky than I have any right to be, given all my foot problems...but I have to get exactly what I want if I'm going to spend money (and lose precious closet space) now! I'd also rather have a chunky heel than a wedge, since I already have 3 pairs of wedge sandals.

Kelly, that's encouraging. I might just try the Miz Mooz and see. If they don't work out, I can always return them.

Oh, and I actually do not want black! I would like a color. Red is always delicious, but yellow is fun too.

Maya, I just thought of one more idea... have you seen the new Swedish Hasbeens collection at H and M? I'm sure one of the NYC stores carries it...

I posted about this last week, and I did finally get to the store to try them on. Unfortunately, they did not work for me, as I found the front part a little tight on my foot (was worried about my bunion) but the leather seemed soft and the sole seemed nice and stable. They still had loads of them in the Boston store when I went on Friday so I think there's a good chance that they are not sold out.

Oh Diana, I was JUST thinking about that before you posted it. If I have time this week I'm definitely going to check that out. I love the look of Swedish Hasbeens but yeah, the price is a dealbreaker. Hopefully there will still be a generous supply left. There is a store that is relatively close to work so I might hop in over lunch some time this week.

I also suggest trying the MM's. I got their Heather sandal recently, which looks very similar, and they're incredibly comfortable. The leather is very soft and I hardly feel like I'm wearing heels! They're probably the most comfortable sandals I've had.

Maya, I bought the Kork-Ease Deborahs in yellow a few weeks ago. I am planning to wear them in Hawai'i, but I haven't really road-tested them yet. They are adorable and seem comfy from my little trial run in the house. I will let you know how I fare with them!

I haven't been shopping so I don't have any suggestions but for what it's worth, I find wooden soles really uncomfortable and my feet are way more tolerant than yours.

I'm following for Sammi's response about the MM Heather -- I'm wanting those too, though I do like the other red MM you posted above.
For what it's worth, I like many of the Kimchi Blue shoes at Urban Outfitters in theory, but I don't find them comfortable at all, especially for fussy feet. They tend to use synthetic leathers too so not as supple.
Also, I think I saw a QueenMum post with the red MM you have above, maybe PM her to comment as well.

Hey, Maya, I just read that the Deborahs have the classic cork soles covered in leather (i.e. not wood). In case that helps...

Oops, I just saw this! The MM's run just a bit on the small side. I typically wear a 6.5 in shoes and a 7 in most sandals. I definitely needed a 7 in these.

But it's been so cold I haven't had a chance to roadtest them. They seem to be the perfect platform height, though - low enough to feel you aren't levitating too far off the ground.

@Laura: did you have to size up with your MM?

I usually wear an 8, but I wonder if I should go up to 8.5 for these? I am now considering the sandal Maya posted but if they have it in whiskey.
