Has anyone used Groupon? How do you get your certificate? (Probably a dumb question but I'd like to know how it works before committing)

I've used it before. They have a place on the website that has your deals and you have to print out a coupon type thing.

I know a bunch of people who have used Groupon a lot, but this was my first time actually using one of their deals. After you order, you get a confirmation screen that your coupon will be available at a certain time (usually the next day; in this case, it said my coupon will be available at 3 am on the 19th), and you go to the website to print out your coupon.

It looks like it needs to be used today in a physical store. Will the groupon be available online today if ordered today? That's what I'm wondering. Anybody know?

No, it doesn't need to be used today ~ in fact, you won't get the coupon/certificate until tomorrow. I think you're seeing that the offer to buy the $50 coupon for $25 is only good for today. This $25-for-$50 deal is only offered today and you can't buy it tomorrow; that's how Groupon works, offering a new deal each day.

But you're right that it needs to be used only in-store, not online.

Ha, I've edited this post at least two times; I'm not always clear! If you buy the $50 coupon/certificate today (the deal is only valid today) then you will have access to your certificate thingy starting sometime tomorrow, and that certificate thingy is valid from August 19 through November 19.

I have used Groupon several times, mostly restaurant certificates. You are able to print the coupon yourself after they process your order. Clear instruction walk you through the process. It's pretty slick! Thanks for sharing this, Sparky!

FYI, I bought one and they said due to the high volume of sales, my certificate may not be available until Saturday or Sunday.

I heard that this was posted on slickdeals, so I can imagine that made sales shoot through the roof. I feel lucky I got an email from Gap about it early in the morning before the mad rush.

I was able to purchase and print my Groupon today. And thanks Sparky, yes it is valid to use through November 19. Thanks for explaining! Now I get it.

Glad that worked out for you! I also just got the email to print out my groupon. I expect I'll use it for back-to-school clothing for the kids.
