It's been five years since my mother's passing and I am so missing our conversations... She was the most intelligent, well read person I've ever met. We talked about EVERYTHING!

A picture from teen years shows that relationship perfectly...We were just doing our thing when a photographer family friend caught this...

Tracey...what a sweet and sad message, and what a lovely picture of the two of you. How lucky you were, to have her in your life. I know you've played the same role for your own children.

Such a sweet post and picture. I'm feeling a lot of this lately although my mother is still living, but she has dementia so our relationship has changed considerably in the last two years. I try to focus on appreciating how wonderful she still is, but I so miss the conversations we used to have. In that way, I can empathize. xxx

I am sorry you are missing your Mom. I lost my Mom almost 6 years ago and I really understand.

Tracey, I understand. I lost my mom around the same time you did (5 years ago in November). I still miss her. She's been on my mind a lot lately -- that happens every spring, with the promise of brighter days and gardens starting to come to life. She loved gardening and flowers, so it's a sweet memory but a little sad too.

I'm glad you have such good memories of her. She sounds like a really special person.

Tracey, I just lost my mother a month ago, although, in reality, the actual loss was much earlier because of dementia. She was such a witty and wise conversationalist, which made the decline even more poignant.

Your picture brought back so many good memories of the times we shared before her illness. I think missing our moms like this makes us rather lucky because not every mother and daughter feels this sense of closeness.

It's really hard losing a parent you were close to. (((HUGS))). Time does not heal - it's been almost 14 years since my Mama passed away - but holding onto memories like this is priceless. Celebrate her life and your fondness for her, Tracey. Your Mama's soul is alive in you forever.

What a precious photo of the two people caught in the moment. Thank you for sharing it with us.

April said beautifully what I thought.

Sometimes I see woman on the street who reminds me of my mum and I think "this is what my mum would look like if she lived to be older". Same soft skin, same ginger hair, even the similar hairstyles. I then feel closer to her, as if she's somehow reminding me "'I'm here, around you, in you".

I saw such lady on the bust stop last night, with her grown up daughter who was holding her little boy, the mother was touching the daughter. The daughter, although a mother herself now, was still on the receiving end of her own mother's touch. Someone's child too. I will never have that again. It makes me sad. I loved when my mum hugged me. But, I will have the knowledge of how my mum lived her life, which is the best thing she left me.

Thank you for sharing this picture, Tracey, it truly is special. My own mother passed away when I was 24 yrs. old, and I cherish the pictures and memories I have of her.

What a wonderful photo, Tracey! I'm so sorry that it is hard. I agree with Angie, time does not make the missing any less. I still have my mom, but I lost my dad 21 years ago, and I had the kind of relationship with him that you describe. There are just so many more moments I want to share with him... I hope that holding your mother's memory close will ease some of the pain, but really, it just plain hurts. I'm so sorry!

That's a wonderful photo of you and your mother, Tracey. I'm sorry that you are having a difficult time right now. My mom died two years ago, and just when I miss her the most, I sense her presence in another elderly lady or in nature, or she comes to me in a dream. Your mother lives on in you and your children.

Thank you, everyone! My mother had dementia as well so I completely understand the "pre-loss" that you mourn before they pass. ..My father died when I was just 13...so this loss meant the loss of a role as daughter and unconditional love only a parent can offer. I did end up spending the weekend at a beach house with friends,which helped tremendously.
