5 men said I looked nice today

This never happens, perhaps partly because I work with almost all women! Please somebody help me bottle whatever I did today! I have no clue. The shoes are nice because they are nude with texture, and low heeled. But partway through the day my toes start squishing into the point. Does this happen to you? The sweater top and lace skirt are ink blue. Both AT last year. I think the second pic might show the skirt fabric better. Cardi via Marshall's, shoes Stuart Weitzman Poco (still available in other colors--these went 50% off but not till after I bought them). If you have any idea why this outfit was a hit with men please share! Thank you!

Well, that's easy - you look stunning!

I think it's the combination of all of the items - everything is in proportion, it's a flattering silhouette, lovely colors and the snakeprint pointy-toed shoe adds an extra sexy little vibe. Beautiful!

I can not speak for the minds of men. They are inscrutable and befuddling at times, but when they know a beautiful woman, that's a good day!

This is chic and classic, and exceedingly flattering. Simple, but with a pop of modern color and a good does of texture.

As for your shoe problem: I've started wearing ball of foot inserts to keep my feet further back in my shoes.

You look gorgeous so I'm not surprised. Without knowing what you normally wear or if these men see you in what you normally wear I'm going to go by just what I see here & what I think men think of womens' style. Everything you are wearing is classic. I don't think a lot of men like overly trendy clothes. Your skirt & top are tailored. I think men like to see the shape of a woman's body & prefer tailored & sometimes body con to oversized. Men have always loved classic, refined pointy toed shoes like these. My DH doesn't like the more elongated pointy toes like my Stuart Weitzman but these aren't like that. Now I'm going to make a mental note of your outfit & copy it & see what my DH says:)

I agree and I'm not a guy. Perhaps it's the fit and proportions! I love that shade of yellow with black and the lace texture is feminine but not girly.

You have achieved a lovely line and the colour combination is very appealing. While you poor tootsies don't look too happy the outfit overall looks simply elegant to me. Your waistline curves in nicely, is that what appeals to the male of the species? Who knows!

Do you usually wear more neutrals? I do think many men like brighter colours, or at least that colour is something that will catch the attention of men who don't notice subtler details. It's also figure flattering. Simply put you look very pretty

You look pretty, feminine, and comfortable (After all, most men really don't know how squished toes can get in a pointy shoe!)

I think men like clothes that don't look too complicated or unusual so they can see you, not the outfit. Women notice the clothes, men notice the woman in the clothes.

I'm with Christa! You do look stunning. It almost looks like a sheath dress in black from the pics. I think if you want to attain that look again (and if I were complimented by 5 men, I would do that!), try a black sheath with a little bit of stretch, and wear a cardi that compliments your coloring. The nude pumps are great, or you can pop a bit of color in there to contrast with your cardi. An easy formula, really. And you've got STYLE!

This is great everyone, thanks for the insights.... I do think men like uncomplicated, classic clothes that show the figure to some extent but not too much. Gaylene, you are so right... a woman said "I like your skirt" while the men said "You look nice today." MamaV, I love the idea of trying to make a formula of a look that's successful. I have always loved sheath shapes.

Beth Ann, I even have some spare ball of foot inserts... I will try this, because I would love to refine the fit of these shoes which are great in every other way. BTW, my oldest friend (from junior high) is named Beth Ann. Only when I met her she was going by Beth, so that's what I call her. I am the only person in the world who doesn't call her Beth Ann! (I asked her if she wanted me to switch and she changed the subject.)

Adelfa, my husband would chime in with a sixth compliment if he saw this outfit. He LOVES classic, uncomplicated outfits with flattering proportions. Also it hints at your figure without being too revealing in an aggressive way. And the nude, pointy shoes elongate your pretty legs. So feminine with the soft, colorful cardigan. Yep, it's a hit! You look fab.

The outfit is lovely and fresh - and it allows you to shine! No wonder you got compliments! It's also a great transitional outfit for spring, with the bright sweater and nude shoes. I agree with what everyone has said -- classic, figure flattering, easy-looking, and just wow!

Looks great -- I agree with everyone, it shows your shape without looking too revealing or tight, it has that soft cardi, and the shoes are pretty and elongate your leg line.

I'll echo Claire: uncomplicated, classic, showing figure in a non-aggressive way...

I'll add: the ink blue set looks like a one-piece dress, and I notice men really like the sight of a little cute dress on a woman (easier to remove LOL?) I tend to get compliments from men when wearing a little dress.

the colour contrast is interesting, attention grabbing without being loud. In fact it has a "demure", graceful quality.

Pointy toe, small, delicate necklace bookend each other and give off an impression of grace, agility, which makes you vibrant.

Clean lines are easier to appreciate.

Yellow near your face illuminates it. Men often notice face first.

I can only agree with everyone else: this is feminine (lace, colorful sweater) while still being business-like and appropriate (dark base colors, classic shapes). It's possible the toe cleavage added some extra oomph! ; )

I have no idea about the man thing, I will ask my husband later. But you do look fantastic ! Everything fits you really well, literally. The yellow color is such a happy one and it looks really good on you. Few people look that good in yellow, I find. The texture of your dress is amazing and really lightens it up for Spring. The shoes are fab, fab, fab. I do have the same issue with pointy shoes. They just can't be an 8 hour shoe for me for the reasons you explained. I always go up 1/2 size to one full size in pointy shoes, and it still isn't an 8 hour shoe.

Well, you look great and not too "out there" for most guys! Do you ever read the fashion mag sections where they interview guys about which outfits/hairstyles/looks appeal to them? They mostly choose the cute, sexy but wholesome girl next door looks. No man-repelling, no frump, no skank. That's what I see here. Glad those guys spoke up so you could start this fun conversation!

I went by Beth, too, until I was in college. I'm not an Elizabeth (my last name was Eikenberry--- jeesh. Thankfully, Mom and Dad kept it short) I found that no one remembers one syllable names -- so I added the middle. I always wanted a more exotic name. When I was 5 I kept telling people my name was Angelique. Yes, after Angelique in "Dark Shadows." I was hip to the vampire trend decades before the millenials!
