£40 skirt and £110 skirt, which do you prefer?

Okay I know I said I would try shop your closet but I'm sidetracked already, I have wanted for some time a pleated skirt and then along comes two at once, I saw the more expensive version first and it was love but the less expensive option option is also nice.

I'm trying to decide if I should wait for the £110 skirt to go on sale or buy the more affordable option today. the fabric is the same for both skirts.

So if you have the time could you look at both and let me know which you believe is the best? Does one of the skirts look more expensive? Does one of the skirts look better quality.

Hmmm, the pics don't enlarge at all when I click on them (they stay pretty tiny), so it's hard to make a judgment about quality....Do you prefer one of the colors over the other? I would think both would look lovely with your coloring, but I'm imagining that blue on you...oh my. But the silvery gray might be more versatile? Sorry I'm not much help :).

The pictures are small but from I'm seeing, I like the second one better (the color is lovely!), it's hard to determine their quality (I need to touch fabric to know ;)). They look very similar, too. Which one is the more expensive one?

Julie, my aqua-loving heart prefers the brighter colour of the first......not much help, sorry!

I can't help because I know which is which and with the benefit of that knowledge think the expensive one looks more expensive and luxurious. The close-ups on the websites give you a bit of a feel for the fabric.

There's quite a difference in length - 8cm. How big a factor in the look you want is that?

Can you buy the cheaper one to try out anyway?

If the fabric is the same, they don't look much different to me other than color preference. I can't enlarge the photos, though. I'm guessing the aqua is the pricey one, but I am generally clueless. I think the aqua would look smashing on you!

I like the white one (photo 2) because the material looks more swingy. It's hard to tell by just a photo, though -- could be a trick of the shot. I'd have to see and touch the fabric to make a proper call.

Also, the white one is a more flattering length, even on the tall willowy models. That could be contributing to my opinion.

it's hard to tell, but from the pictures the second one looks like it has better drape. Of course, they gave it movement in the picture so you really need to get your hands on them do make that determination.

Okay, number one is the more expensive option, unfortunately Whistles will not allow a direct link. Here is skirt two in more detail, I'm alarmed by the catwalk view it would definitely necessitate to slip!!!!

One thing about photo number one that might be skewing our opinions is that they have it styled rather dowdily IMO. The high neck and short sleeves of that blouse is not flattering on the model, and she looks like she needs to style her hair... that isn't helping that skirt out at all.

oh my! You're right about the catwalk view of skirt 2. goodness! It really does look like a very nice skirt. I'd try that one first and see what you think of it in person.

I agree with Kim that the way the styled #1 is biasing us.Even so I would only go for #1 if you love the turquoise color otherwise #2 looks the same as #1.

From the photos they both look of equal quality. I think #2 would be more versatile!

Based on the photos, I would go with #2 -- I like the length and color better. That's if they truly are about the same quality, only you will know for sure when you see them in person. Or: buy #2 first and take it for a test run, and buy #1 when it goes on sale later.

Thank you for enlarging the photo for me Ornella, I really do appreciate it.

So it appears there is a preference for skirt #2 and for the colour of skirt #1. (I have also come across a third skirt in black for less money still, I like the idea of a coloured skirt for daytime and a black skirt for more formal occasions.)

Thank you for your input, you have helped to eliminate any price tag prejudice I had in assessing the two skirts.

I like them both very much. I didn't see where the prices were listed so I don't know which is the more expensive of the two. Normally I would choose the less expensive one, I think #2 looks like the more expensive one. Honestly, you are the only one who is going to know how much it cost, so why pay more when you can get the *look* for less? That's my mantra! You will look gorgeous with either of these.

These remind me so much of skirts from the late 60's-early 70's. My MIL especially loved them. Before you order, please look carefully at the way they can be cleaned. If washable, go for it. If dry clean only, you might check with a cleaner first about the cost of doing a pleated skirt. It used to cost a fortune to have one of these skirts cleaned because of the work of repressing all the pleats. Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks Joy, they are both machine washable polyester (I asked Angie who succinctly put polyester loves pleats) so hopefully they will be fairly low maintenance.

I feel the first one has something more classic about it and that you will get more years of wear from it. It is the way the fabric falls. It is a less pronounced pleat. I would get the better one if you can afford it. It is also a stand out color and it will make you feel good and it will get many compliments. I love it with the matching top. So classic!

I purposely haven't looked at anyone elses post, because I wanted to give my very own opinion (and I'm easily influenced - Hey - it's great to know your own weaknesses, right?!).

I must say I prefer #2. Basically, I just like it more - hmmmm maybe the the fabrication, the pleating (?), the cut - together they just appeal. (Although #1 of course is still lovely.)

I wonder if I have expensive taste? (I'll come back and peek later!)
