There is one sister in particular -- the one who is always on the far right -- whose face I find so moving. In some of the later pictures she dodges the camera a bit, looking off to the side or down, and it makes me wonder. I can see myself getting very emotional looking at these images in person. It's the passage of time, the sense of a woman's life, the implicit idea of changing relationships ....
I do come from a family of sisters which is maybe why I find myself so drawn to this series, I don't know. (I've read about it before.)
I'm going to try to grab a sister and head to New York in November to see it.
(And Suz, I loved Susan Minot's novel "Monkeys." It was a very powerful read for me just after college.)
