I think this is great advice for women of all ages! The other day I paired a crop top with leggings despite several people pointing out that the outline of my hip bones was visible through my pants.
I saw photos of my favorite Brazilian actress, who is considered one of the best dressed and most stylish women in the country, wearing leggings with a shorter top and her hip bones sticking out. And she looked gorgeous, as usual. Although I don’t really watch Brazilian TV/Movies, I’ve been following her for years because I like her style and we have a similar body type (skinny legs -for Brazilian standards- and narrow hips).
I’m not a fan of this particular top but I like her pants and looove dressy leggings in general. I own more than a dozen pairs in or imitating “fancy” materials such as leather, vinyl, velvet, satin etc as well as in countless colors. I love pairing them with ankle boots or combat/lace up boots with heels. As for tops, I used to only wear them with tunics or longer shorts that covered my hips but recently I found out they look great with casual, t shirt type crop tops.
Certain advantages do come with maturity, though. Your personal style becomes more distinct because you build your outfits based more on what you like instead of putting together pieces with other people’s perception/opinion somewhere in a (constantly shrinking) corner of your mind.
