I would say that at least half of the time I don't tie my trench belts, just because I am Lazy. I just let them dangle or occasionally stuff in a pocket like Aida says. Sometimes the belts can slip around too much, in which case I loop it around the belt loop (like a half knot) which keeps it securely in place.
