Well. I didn't get derailed - exactly - but January has been a month of reeeeally really ridiculously cold (for Atlanta) weather, plus my second (and entirely different) flu since early December. I spent a good deal of it bundled up in loungewear, and working from home.
In most of the photos below, I'm wearing up to seven layers of clothing, including tights and undergarments. I had an entire second outfit underneath that blue sweaterdress.
I learned a lot of things:
1) When the temperature drops, or I'm feeling sick, I really don't care about style. I just want to be warm.
2) I had 29 items.. until I counted loungewear and layering bits. Then, it was closer to 40.
And for me... this is only relevant if I'm travelling for an extended period with limited or no laundry access.
3) Having a 30-item limit made me dig a little deeper into scarves, jewelry, and bags. Alas, I did not get to dig into my shoes like I'd hoped: snow, ice, rain, or just plain too-freakin-cold... all of these conditions precluded anything that wasn't boots.
4) I got more specific about what I want in my closet, and what I don't want. Wants: mermaid colors (greens, blues, blushes, pale corals), iridescent accessories, and pale gold and silver metallics. I have an eye on a pair of white J Brand Maria jeans. I also want more pin-up, more glamour.
I don't want boho, or anything too RATE. Also, I'm not loving menswear for myself.
5) I was able to get more specific about what I need in my closet, and what I don't need anymore of. Need: some t-shirt bras, another pair of loose loungewear pants, some camis. A summer capsule of shorts, 3-4 tees in mermaid colors, and summer sandals or flats.
Don't need: Any more dresses. Any more skirts. Any more black tops. Any more toppers. Any more footwear that isn't for summer.
I didn't always like the 30x30, but it was a good exercise in seeing the potential in my closet.
6) I had some orphans that I did not get around to wearing, because of the temps and loungewear-flu days.
7) FUTURE OUTFIT GOALS: More polished, glamorous, elegant, sexy, pin-up/retro/rockabilly, and more color. Less menswear, unless it's Valmont-y or sleek. Like the first WIW. I loved that.
Final count:
Toppers that I wear indoors: 5 (3 black zip-up, 1 sky-blue zip-up, 1 dark green)
Sweaters: 5 (Black, White, Seafoam, Coral, Navy)
Jeans: 3 pairs
Dress: 1 (navy blue sweaterdress)
Skirts: 1 (blue-green knit)
Button-down blouses: 2 (dark peacock blue, pink)
Long-sleeve tops: 3 (all black: v-neck, mockneck, crewneck)
Leggings: 2 (this does not include the retired pair I've previously mentioned)
Short-sleeve top: 6 ( 2 black, 2 white, 2 blush)
Short sleeve bodysuit: 1 (black)
I have 29 items by this count, but these numbers do not include loungewear tees and pants, which would add another 8-10 items to the count.
I did not take enough pictures. Some of these I've posted already, some are new.
