I'm finally back from my post-New Year's travel, and ready to set some 2019 goals. I'm basing some of of these on last year's goals, and some are completely new.

  1. Continue using the 5-piece French system, with two annual purchasing seasons, focusing on supporting brands that match my lifestyle and values. This is basically a carryover from 2018, with more emphasis on sustainable shopping.
  2. Keep my mid-year relocation plans in mind when purchasing. I'm actually finding the southern California clothing requirements to be similar to Colorado, minus the need to be prepared for below-freezing temps. The need for layering pieces because of large day-night temperature shifts is the same. The summers are similarly hot, but that season lasts an extra few months in SoCal, so I'll need to be prepared to alleviate some summer boredom and put more of my budget towards (ugh) warm-weather clothes. I was struck coming home last night, that people in Colorado wear lighter clothing at 39º (shorts?!, but also light jackets or sweatshirts) than Californians do at 59º (puffers).
  3. Create a theme-park capsule. I'll need some festive, hard-wearing, unfussy outfits for frequent trips to Disneyland and Universal Studios, both for date nights, and with out-of-town guests.
  4. Create a new work-at-home uniform. Similar to the theme park capsule, this needs to be unfussy, easily washable, and hard-wearing, but a bit more artsy and creatively inspiring. This was also a goal last year, and I didn't quite manage it.
  5. Keep my wardrobe roughly the same size. As of today, my spreadsheet shows 117 pieces (counting tops, bottoms, dresses, toppers, outerwear, athletic gear, scarves, belts, footwear, and bags). This is plenty. One-in, one-out is my friend.
My goals feel pretty specific this year, but do any of them resonate with you?
