2016 - phew it is almost over!!

Just a short post to wish you all a safe peaceful end to 2016. I for one won't be sad to say goodbye to the year.

Business wise we are still on the cusp of a major contract but it has not come through yet and I have been in limbo since July...it has been emotionally hard.

My Mother in Law passed away on the 16th of December so we had a sudden trip South. She had vascular dementia, and was facing a move shortly to a more supported situation. We celebrated her 80th in November with family from all around, and her last week was filled with phone calls from family, church and orchestra, things she loved. While it was a release in many ways, it was still much more sudden than we expected.

My Mother has been suffering all year after a fall and broken hip when she was in Wales in April. She can no longer drive and is mostly in a wheelchair. In addition my cousin who I am very close to is also siffering from a terrible back injury and another cousin has just been diagnosed with MS,

My plans are to celebrate New Years very quietly and start 2017 with a positive attitude, and a few small tweaks to my lifestyle.

I will be popping in to the forum on and off over the next couple of weeks but will be away mostly.

Wishing you all the very best for 2017!! I know 2016 has been a hard year for many, so I am not alone in being happy to put it behind me.

I will also not miss 2016. Mine wasn't as stressful as yours, but it was a whole lot of limbo. Hoping to be more settled (and moved to the beach) in 2017.

Oh goodness Sally, I'm so sorry to hear of you MIL's passing. Your poor mum suffering a bad fall and broken hip too, plus your cousins injuries...a very, very difficult time. I hope things work out business wise for you as 2017 approaches and that better health is experienced by all.

So sorry to hear about your struggles, Sally. Starting on a new fresh with your tweeks sounds like a good strategy. Take small steps, breath and seek out joy, even in the most mundane things. Thank you all. Just back from a few days at the beach as well as a long weekend of athletics sports. Feeling a little more at peace with the situation right now. My Mother in Law was ready to pass away so we are at peace with that. I am not sure what lies ahead with the other situations but in the most part I have limited or no control over them.

Increasingly I find New Years a slightly gloomy time - it is mid summer here and expectations can be high.

It was lovely to read your positive comments, that really did help me. I am a positive person 80% of the time, but have become a little more anxious/concerned about life as I age. I need a few strategies to help me better deal with this side of my personality.

Sally, I agree with you about the expectations around the new year.
There are always high hopes for wonderful parties, and the expectation to re-invent ourselves in January.
But then you get up in the morning and it's all still the same!

Possibly helpful is the book I've just read: Gretchen Rubin "The Happiness Project" I bought it on impulse for myself and really enjoyed it. I had a feeling the book or the author had been discussed on YLF sometime in the past.
Sometimes it's really worthwhile talking to a professional counsellor or psychologist. They are the experts at strategies for dealing with anxieties or stresses.

I've seen your kindness, generosity, warmth and positivity, and I hope that you can feel supported by friends IRL and at YLF as life shifts in these unsettling ways. Sending you a virtual hug, and thoughts of peace and strength.

I have considered visiting a life coach...professional advice is a good idea. I have a good group of friends but I would like an outside impartial opinion.
