I've really enjoyed reading the 2012 style summaries from those who have posted such threads.
Although my comments aren't as detailed and I'm not including any outfit pics, I wanted to mention briefly what I discovered over the last year.
1. Quality and fit tie as the number one priority for an item and both of these need to be spot on (or be achieved via Wonder Woman in terms of fit) before it comes into my closet. BTW quality does not equate necessarily to more expensive (I find the quality of the Canyon River skinny slouchy jeans to be excellent at a lower price point for example). I include fabrication in my quality statement - I am finding more and more often that the "feel" of a garment can really make or break it for me.
2. Although noted above that quality does not necessarily relate to price, I have found that the pricier an item is, the more I really consider it before buying it, and these items tend to be the ones that I turn to the most often.
3. I will buy the best quality I can afford in terms of footwear and everyday handbags. I have found that really good and interesting footwear and handbags can up the style quotient of even the most simple of outfits like jeans and a tee. I added quite a few pairs of shoes/boots/booties and a couple of really good handbags in 2012 and they have all been workhorses for me and I always feel good when wearing them.
4. I don't need to participate in every trend that comes along although I will always want to look modern and current.
5. I don't need to buy large quantities of things for each season. I have found that a couple of key items (i.e. my black leather blazer) for each season can bring your existing items into style and make your whole wardrobe work.
6. My style seems to be shifting to be a bit more graphic and modern. I'm just going to go with that and see what happens.
7. Angie was right - I now love trousers
