2-Year HEWI Hunt ...at a Close?

Holy cats, what a difference 2 years makes! Back then, I purged this cropped, boxy crossing guard yellow jacket because the short sleeves didn't keep me warm and the poly fabric did not allow me to keep cool. #1

However, I loved the bright pop of color and kept looking for yellow toppers. Last year, I tried this one, but ultimately re-sold it because I wasn't in love with the brown keeping the bright yellow away from my face. #2

Now #3 has surfaced at a pretty bonkers price... leather, lined in breathable acetate, cropped, and according to reviews the color is more like a citron IRL - even better as far as I'm concerned. Sounds light enough weight for work after talking with seller. I am picturing for spring with white/cream jeans, heather gray, distressed denim, charcoal/black, olive/camo, gray dressy sweatpants, etc.

BUT, y'all actually talked me out of this other long-term product hunt. You helped me realize that the blue metallic bag wasn't part of my new trajectory.

I am like a dog with a bone sometimes on these HEWI Hunts... should I PPPounce? Or give up the ghost?

ooh, good question! I can be the same (dog with a bone syndrome). Can you try it out with your closet and return if it doesn't work? IF so, I would.

You could wear it for work too, right? That would be the decision maker for me. I love citron, so I'm yay on the color definitely. Do you have the charcoals and grays that you need to wear it for work in your work wardrobe already?

BTW, so funny and such a flash-back to see your long hair. I think your current hair cut fits your level of sophistication so much more than your long hair did. You look so much stronger, bolder and more confident!

Hmmm, you love citron. It loves you right back. That isn't changing.

I am more concerned about the coat itself. Yes, the cropped style is trending. But it doesn't feel as streamlined and sophisticated as so much I have seen you in as of late.

Is it returnable if you do go for it? I would really like to see you in it and styled with some of your amazing outfits.

This looks great to me and seems to be a piece that would work for play and play for work all year long. I just wish I looked as good in yellows/citron as you do!

It is not returnable, but my research says I could easily sell it for more if it doesn't work. Fit is a question mark, since I have never tried in a store.

It would definitely bee mostly a work item that crosses into play. Loose inspiration based on pieces/colors I own attached.

i think this one looks fantastic ... but i am sooooo guilty of buying what i put on my list without stopping to consider why it is on the list so i may not be the most objective in this area. Do you 100% see this working in your current style? As a work option sounds great to me.... but i wonder if you doubt its versatility and that is why you are asking opinions? it can always be resold...

This seems to me to still be consistent with your style evolution. I say it's a go, as long as you are relatively confident that it would fit!

I say to pounce, since you are pretty sure you could sell it yourself at a decent price if it doesn't fit. I think there is a lot of potential for it to be a really fun item. And I imagine that if you don't buy now, you will always wonder whether you should have pounced.

Even if this turns out not to work, it might help you "mellow out" on your HEWI hunts, since you said you can get like a dog with a bone. :^) I think that our failures really help us as much as our successes.

So I adore this little jacket - big surprise, I know! - but I think when you were in love with the past ones they were more sporty/rugged. The leather is more sophisticated and in line with the new you - so have the parameters of the original HEWI changed?

Also, those of us who fall for leather jackets often have issues with wearing them once in our hot little paws. Are you comfortable with wearing this one as easily as you do your Zap copycat leather jacket?

Rae - sometimes you heart is telling you something. I don't think you should ignore your gut. If you don't get it, you will always wonder. I think it looks awesome and it looks like it would work as an indoor jacket which gives it tremendous versatility. Plus it's such a statement color that you can thow it with everything neutral in your wardorobe and it should work. The cropped length always looks so useful. As long as you can resell and recoup, I think it's a really good decision. Whatever you do, listen to your heart on this one!!

Hm, have my parameters changed? Well, yes and no. The main thing was to have a jacket (my signature item) in my signature color. The original was a $1 trial run. I think the search persisted because I've cut out so many bright colors from my wardrobe, yet brights really do look good with my complexion.

At one point I considered a blazer like Angie's, but I never found it in my size to try. I also fell in love with this one along the way, but I was a good girl and cut it out of the running for being 100% poly again (never mind that it's twice the price of the one I'm considering today).

And yes, #5 is also super awesome! But funny, if given the option I would pass on #5 because I don't want more double-breasted moto jackets.

ETA: As for wearing leather... yep, definitely have a bad track record. But! If there is ever a time in life for me to get away with leather, it's in my current department. We seem to have Vince, Veda, and Helmut Lang leathers year round, along with a couple IRO and Truth & Pride. Pretty different from working in the office or selling mostly business casual wear.

Okay, get it! I just remember the original search being for the sporty/rugged utility jacket. I get fixated on things especially when they become unobtainable.

Citron and leather are a match made in fashion heaven!

The jacket looks good, but my cautious self kicks in at buying anything yellow from a picture if it's non-returnable. I've always felt that yellows, greens, and oranges were trickier shades to replicate accurately in a photograph. Until you see the actual item, it's hard to judge if that shade of yellow makes you jump for joy or wrinkle your nose.

But I do think you NEED a yellow jacket. You come alive in that colour even though both of your previous jackets were't exactly what you were looking for.

Rae, if you know you can re-sell at cost or higher, there is literally no real risk. If it works out, brilliant! If it doesn't -- well, c'est la vie. A little inconvenience for you is all. It seems to have all the features you're looking for and is well worth trying.

Hmm, if it's a good resale piece (in case it doesn't work out), it seems like there would not be a huge risk in trying it. Yellow and citron for you are like teal and blue are for me, and we all know how much I love my cobalt leather jacket. One does not see yellow leather jackets every day, so I say pounce.
