Angie, interesting question! I was just pondering this in light of Anna's and MaryK's comments about how much use they get out of their non-work wear in their respective situations. And also thinking about your "gentle admonition" about shopping as a hobby. I'm home sick today and have time to philosophize!
I can wear whatever I want to work on days when I don't have court or clients. Jeans, leather, RATE, whatever. I generally schedule my days so I have several client appointments in a day, then a day of nothing to get work done (such as today, when I was able to stay home). And I dress down on Fridays, when I work in DS's 3rd grade class in the morning and have the p.m. scheduled for office work. I can wear what I want on the weekends.
Also, I do a lot of home or hospital/facility visits, where I need to look presentable but often have to deal with pets, dust, and the squalor that can come with being old, ill or neglected.
This puts me in the situation of HAVING to dress professionally by Alaska standards (and yesterday's leather blazer outfit could EASILY go to court here) 2 -3 days a week, and total freedom the rest of the time. So yes, I could wear this or any outfit of this level to work 2-3 days of the week on average.
What do you suggest for a wardrobe mix for an oddball like me?
