1920s style with a pear-shaped body?

Hi ladies!
I'm going to a themed costume party and I'd have to dress as a flapper but the dropped waist styles look really bad on me.
I was wondering if this dress: http://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/too-dressy-1, that looks more belonging to the 1910s-Titanic-DowntonAbbey world (although too short for that), could play the part somehow. Any suggestions?

It's quite hard to tell/ imagine, but I think with the right accessories you might be able to pull it off.

If you can try from a costume hire:
20's beaded skull cap
Beaded fringe bag

And wear with:
Your hair in a chignon, waved at the front
Flat shoes
Silky fringed wrap

Then I think the full on 20's feel of the accessories might pull it off.

I can't see why a flapper dress wouldn't look great on you though?

My body is a pear shape, hips wider than shoulders, and flapper dresses are straight from shoulder to the widest part of the hip, so for a dress like this to fit my hips it would have to be too big on my torso.

I'm looking at this site to see if I can find something that suggests the 20s and is not the flapper look: http://silentladies.com/Ladies.html, lots of pretty detail in clothing!
