1 dress 3 ways - how to wear?

I have this brown linen "safari" style dress and I'm not sure how to wear it.

I have it belted in 2 of the pics, one in a contrasting shade and another belt in the same shade of fabric.

I've also posted a pic of it unbelted, its almost an a-line dress if it is not belted.

I'm wearing it with my leopard print peep toe heels (I love these shoes!)

Also do you think this look would work with a blazer/sweater on top? (i'm thinking of the Jcrew corrine jacket here)

Note: I also never thought of there being anything wrong with the length of this dress but now that I see it in pics, it does look a bit too long. What do you think?

Cute dress Aisha! In my opinion belted looks the best, and both belts look nice with it. And I'd certainly shorten it a couple of inches!

I was playing around with the dress some more and I tried it with my yellow Corrine Jacket and a slimmer belt

I think I like this look the best, what do you think?

Aisha, I like the yellow jacket and slimmer belt personally. I agree with Tanya, I'd shorten the dress. Btw...I meant to tell you in the who's who thread that I work with a company that's listed on the TSX so I know what a CA is. I'm a CPA and find it very difficult to research items in Canadian GAAP

Aisha, it does look the best with the Jacket and skinny belt. A few inches shorter and you'll have a perfect outfit!

I personally like it best with the wide belt in the contrasting color (is that yellow?) And the peep toes are super fab!!

Julia, it's accounting speak I'm afraid. TSX- Toronto Stock Exchange, CA - Chartered Accountant, CPA - Certified Public Accountant, GAAP - generally accepted accounting principles. Sorry about the confusion

Another accountant! Lol well now I know who to contact when I have questions about US GAAP! Your new pensions accounting standards were driving me crazy last September...we had a client who had to show a US GAAP rec in their financials and we were having problems figuring out what the differences were b/w canadian and us gaap!

and thanks for all of your suggestions ladies! I'm glad I've found something to wear my yellow jacket with! I wore it out today and turned up the collar and loved it!

Antje, the belt is a camel colour, which works nicely with the peeptoes! And thanks, they are among my favorite pairs of shoes!

I love it with the yellow jacket. Prefer the contrasting belt to the same color belt. Agree it could go shorter--I'd say a good 3". I don't care for it unbelted--it does not show off your curves properly.

Just wanted to add that I like it with the yellow jacket too!

And you could try a red or gold or bright yellow belt ( patent maybe) when you wear it without the jacket.

Super! I like the dress best with the yellow jacket and narrow belt. (And those little thong sandals are beautiful). A gorgeous little outfit!

I like the dress best alone with the contrasting belt. Another great outfit. And you can take a good few inches off the dress too. Show off more of lovely you!

I just love you in a jacket Aisha. That one gets my vote. I don't know how toasty it gets in Toronto though. Maybe a jacket isn't practical for the season, in which case I like the contrasting belt.

Thanks everybody! I'm slowly getting more comfortable with the idea of incorporating colour into my wardrobe!

I wore the dress with teh yellow jacket (collar turned up) on Friday afternoon and I loved it! I got a few compliments too Even hubby complimented me on the colour (which was surprising - I thought he was going to tell me its too bright!)

Will drop the dress off to get shortened this weekend. Thanks again for everybody's suggestions! This forum is so wonderful, you are all so nice and have such good outfit ideas!

Hooray! I'm happy you wore the yellow jacket with the brown dress. Another option is a white belt under the jacket and white shoes. I love wearing the collar up on my navy Corrine jacket, it gives it a little edge. I bet you looked fab!

Thanks Ana! Actually I got the idea from you, I think a while back you had posted a pic of yourself with the jackets collar turned up. I wouldn't have thought of it otherwise! So thanks!

Its amazing the difference it makes to the outfit with the collar turned up vs. worn blazer style.

I don't have a white belt but I think I will look into getting one. It would work with a lot of my summer clothes
