Macy’s is generally a good source for dresses across petite, regular and plus sizes, and their online selection is particularly good. Chances are low you’ll find the most fashion-forward frock in their dress department, but you will find a whole slew of flop proof and flattering modern classics in machine washable fabrications and at reasonable prices. Here’s an assortment of what I call a “no-nonsense dress”. Easy to wear, comfortable and unfussy. Browse through all the colours and read the rave reviews.
- Tommy Hilfiger Plaid V-Neck Sweater Dress: A preppy sweater dress that looks fab with wedge sneakers, or casual boots and tights. Might run small.
- NY Collection Petite Cable-Knit A-Line Sweater Dress: A fit-and-slightly-flared sweater dress that's best on a short neck, short waist, and defined waist.
- NY Collection Topstitched Flared Sweater Dress: The vertical panelling and seaming here is slimming and forgiving. Best on a very curvy hourglass or pear shape.
- CeCe By Cynthia Steffe Lace-Inset Shift Dress: A flirty trapeze dress for Team Retro and Legs. Nice back necktie. Love the lace insets.
- RACHEL Rachel Roy Striped High-Low Hoodie Dress: A sporty frock to wear with sneakers, or with leggings.
- Calvin Klein Illusion-Mesh Sweater Dress: A LBD with interesting mesh detailing. Best with a strapless bra, but can be worn with black bra straps too. The straps become part of the design of the dress. Substantial fabric. Great length for tall gals.
- Calvin Klein Laser-Cut Contrast Sweater Dress: A sweater dress that adds curves to a straight and narrow lower half. Good on an inverted triangle.
- Calvin Klein Long-Sleeve Cowl-Neck Sweater Dress: A cozy fit-and-flared sweater dress to wear with boots, or hose and pumps.
- Lauren Ralph Lauren Floral-Print Jersey Dress: Classic Graphic Floral Fabness.
- Lauren Ralph Lauren Floral-Print Faux-Wrap Dress: An earthy wrap dress which works best on a smaller-busted hourglass or pear shape because the coverage up top is not ample.
- Lauren Ralph Lauren Petite Three-Quarter-Sleeve Collared Sweater Dress: Strict School Girl Fabness. Great on petite inverted triangles with a longer neck.
- Lauren Ralph Lauren Plus Size Long-Sleeve Sheath Dress: A classic for Team Curvy. Conventionally flattering.
- Lauren Ralph Lauren Long-Sleeve Sequin Gown: Elegant Chic. It's the type of formal gown you can wear over and over again because of its high longevity factor and subtle design detailing.
- Lauren Ralph Lauren Pleated Cocktail Dress: A classic that will not date. Best on a long waist and neck.
- American Living Jacquard Peplum Dress: '80s Peplum Fabness. The gathers under the bust are not subtle so consider yourself warned.
- Karen Kane Animal-Print Faux-Wrap Dress: A great frock for a curvy hourglass. Good coverage over the bust. Might run a size big.
- Karen Kane Beaded High-Low Shift Dress: Eat and dance the night away in this number because it's roomy, and good for relaxed tummy muscles.
- American Living Long Sleeve Ruffled Faux-Wrap Dress: Red ruffles add flair to a simple mock wrap dress. Good length for tall gals. Festive with textured hosiery and party shoes.
