Here’s a selection of colourful Fall and Winter pieces that can brighten a cold and gloomy day. Many of the items are available in neutrals if the colours aren’t your cup of tea. But if you are after colour, grab those pieces fast because it won’t be long before shop floors are a sea of neutrals for the rest of the season.
- Troubador Felted Zafira Turtleneck: A poncho with a unique flocked front panel. Arty and charming.
- Madewell Depot Cocoon Coat: A cocoon coat that's roomy yet sufficiently streamlined. It tapers quite nicely at the side seams. Not scratchy. The red is a little brighter than in the photo. The style looks better in person and is best worn with jeans and casual pants.
- Boden Karlie Coat: A prim, proper, pretty and PATTERNED coat with a Retro flavour. Ladylike. Fun worn with tough or tomboy items.
- Zara Zipped Tote Bag: A mustard accessory to throw into a neutral palette.
- Big Buddha Faux Leather Satchel: An orange accessory to wear with a wardrobe full of blue. Vegan.
- Echo Everyday Ruana Poncho: A beetroot poncho for Team Cool Colours. The front neck opening makes layering easy.
- Anna Kristine Asymmetrical 100% Cashmere Draped Poncho Topper: A purple poncho with a neck opening that makes it stay put all day. Works on petites. Read the rave reviews.
- Kristen Blake Wool & Alpaca Blend Notch Collar Coat: The best throw-over-and-go coat of the season - the photo does not do it justice. Well made and great texture. Modern Retro at its best. Its cocoon shape allows you to wear it over all sorts of chunky layers, but it has just enough shape. I love the back pleat detailing. Works on an assortment of body type and all heights.
- FLY London Women's Paya Boot: Rugged, ultra casual, teal and very comfortable. Works on a high volume foot.
- Banana Republic Green Cocoon Coat: A dressy forest green cocoon coat for work and play. Streamlined. Might be a little scratchy.
- Banana Republic Textured Sleeveless Turtleneck: A sleeveless tunic vest to wear on its own, layered under a topper, or layered over a shirt or blouse. Might run a size big.
- J.Crew Relaxed wool turtleneck sweater with rib trim: A crisp and cozy high-low turtleneck in a glorious shade of Winter Lilac.
- Nordstrom Collection Double V-Neck Cashmere Sweater: A soft and well-made lipstick pink V-neck pullover that's forgiving on apple shaped body types. Nice V-neck at the back too.
- J.Crew Wool melton peacoat: A long and well-made aqua peacoat.
- Perlina Ellen Leather Satchel: A teal satchel that's somewhat unstructured. Comes in a very rusty orange too.
- Vince Camuto Stretch Cotton One-Button Blazer: A great modern classic blazer in a crisp cotton. Has some stretch for comfort and good sleeve length for long arms. I'm amazed at how well this blazer fits BOTH a curvy figure with a larger bust, and a straight figure with a small bust. Might run a size big.
- Rag & Bone 'Jessica' Wool Blend Turtleneck Sweater: Soft, drapey and refined. Best on a long neck and small to regular bust. Extra long sleeves. Might run a size small.
- Ann Taylor Red Statement Coat: A well-made and very polished bright red topper. Excellent on an apple shape. Lightweight and slightly Retro. Fab on petites.
- BCBGMAXAZRIA Walked Color Block Cape: A dramatic plaid cape to wear with jeans and a turtleneck. You have to be okay with the waist definition of the unusual style. Not good on a long waist.
- Dansko Larkin: Comfortable, robust and supportive. Read the rave reviews.
- J.Crew Stadium-cloth cocoon coat: A streamlined cocoon coat that is a repeat style. Works on a variety of body types. Lots of colours to choose from.
- J.Crew Collection relaxed cashmere pullover sweater: An unusual shade of cranberry-mauve. Fluid and luxurious.
- J.Crew Wool boatneck sweater: A rich forest green boat neck to wear with ink blue or grey.
- Ann Taylor Ruched 3/4 Sleeve Crepe Top: A great layering top when you need a pop of colour.
- Ann Taylor Wrap Sweater: Fitted and fab for Team Curvy. Great on a larger bust and shorter neck. Excellent layered under a jacket too.
- Elie Tahari Louisa Double Face Coat: An impeccable Tahari cocoon coat. Luxurious fabric. Pricey and a beautiful statement. Works on an assortment of body types. Can overwhelm petites, so consider yourself warned.
- Tory Burch Stripe Asymmetrical Peplum Merino Sweater: My curvy client tried this on over a pair of denim culottes and I gasped. Stunning. It's an architectural silhouette with an architectural stripe to match. Waist defining, but not clingy. Might run a little small. Not scratchy.
