Its hot and I'm finally getting a chance to wear the jcrew ruffled singlet Angie recommended some months ago. Another item that would have been perfect for the store!!

Also I need some wardrobe culling opinions. Should I cull these blazers or try to make them work?

Hi Yublocka,

First, I have to say you look Amazing in that ruffled top, it really makes me wish I had bought one!!

For the jackets. I would cull the mint-colored one, I think it buttons up too high.

I actually really like the black one, I could see that possibly going over a dressy dress on the rare occasion when one needs a cover up. It also sounds like the quality is really nice and it looks good.

For the darker brown/olive one, I am torn on that. Have you tried rolling up the sleeves rather than scrunching them? Also, have you tried belting it?

If you try those things and it still doesn't work, I say get rid of if. If it has been four years, you probably wont' wear it so why move it?

I think the blazers look good but if you consistently pass them over for other pieces i guess it's time to let them go especially as you need to make your wardrobe smaller x

I'd personally hold on to the blazers, but I might be biased because I wear mine all the time. My lifestyle is really casual and I wear them with everything. Lately I've really been drawn to the graphic tee and blazer look... there is something really cool about wearing a casual tee with a more structured layer. I like it.

I actually really like your velvet blazer and think you could find many ways to wear it, dressed up or down! I like the other two as well, but I think the minty green one looks better open because the button stance is so high.

Wow, you look gorgeous in the jcrew top. What a beauty you are!

I don't have much advice re the blazers- I consistently throw out things I wish I'd kept, so I'm a little hesitant to advise. But if Melbourne is a bit dressier, why not wait and see if you can make them work to smarten up casual wear. I remember when I moved from a casual city to a dressier one (Austin to Dallas) I was surprised by how dressed up "casual" meant there. I had to run out and do a lot of shopping!

You look wonderful, Tam! Glad that you’re getting use out of that J. Crew top. (I have worn mine twice. I err on the smarter side of dressing and I’m still not a knit top gal. I am ready to swap mine).

Thanks for the feedback on the jcrew top. I love it! I don't feel very comfortable wearing most singlets without a layer on top, but this one is very forgiving. Angie if I was a zillion sizes smaller I'd be more than happy to swap

Sounds like the mint blazer is def. out. The black gets mixed reviews and the brown is a keep for now and see how it goes. Angie how would I make the brown one boyfriendy? I don't think its long enough, and the sleeve fabric is too thick to scrunch.

Tam, I was going to suggest scrunching up the sleeves, but I guess that won’t work. How about wearing it un-buttoned with a skirt and leggings and one of your dramatic scarves? That will increase its funky factor.

Angie, do you think there is any chance that your J Crew top would fit me? I know you mentioned it was a bit voluminous on you and I'd probably only wear it as a layering piece anyway...just saying! I have about a million shoes that need to be passed on that I could probably return-swap, if any of them are to your liking.

Sorry for the thread hijack Tam. Anyway, I had a similar blazer to the first one you posted and I jazzed it up a bit with a pin. It made it less "proper" to me (it's too small so I had to cull it, unfortunately, so no pics).

I really like the first jacket Tam, the other two I neither love nor dislike. Sorry that is not much use.

With regards to your new smaller wardrobe, have you tried Vacuum packing your winter clothes and putting them away for the summer. This will free up space and it becomes quite simple to reverse the process come the summer. If I had an attic space I would definitely employ this tactic.

I have made the mistake of culling items and later regretting it due to a move. I even accidentally sent to the skip a one of a kind amber necklace Ben gave me and my favourite clutch bag. I still want to weep when I think of it!

Oh no! Julie! My heart weeps with you. To make you feel better, I accidentally passed my wedding dress onto the Salvation Army. I don’t have anyone to pass it down to, so it’s fine. But it would have been fun to keep and try on from time to time.
