We did so great yesterday! Here's today's photo:

Water lilies (Nymphaea nouchali), Okavango Delta, Botswana by Frans Lanting

Photograhper Frans Lanting says: 'During my work in Botswana's Okavango Delta, I looked for ways to capture the essence of this great wetland and my own response to the wonder of it. The delta's water lilies drew me in because they symbolize life made possible by water in this dry land. One day I looked down in a clear lagoon and noticed how a patch of lilies was anchored in desert sand.' He adds, 'An idea took hold. I plunged into the swamp. While an assistant stood guard in a small boat, I sank to the bottom with a camera encased in a bubble-shaped underwater housing. I held my breath on each dive, which allowed for less than a minute at the bottom.'

I usually don't have time to post in the morning but took extra care to try to work into the challenge so thought I would try.

I went with the colors in the jacket and scarf. I don't usually wear any warm colors so this was a real challenge for me.

I think I need a new camera. Since I moved to the kitchen for pics they all seem blurry.

This was a bit of a toughie for me. I knew what I wanted to wear, because I'd worn this outfit very recently and the picture instantly recalled that palette. BUT it is a three-piece outfit, and the forecast said 91 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius) with 71% humidity, and indeed, it has just started to thunderstorm rather helpfully. So I cheated just a little. I had worn the outfit originally inside the Arctic Office; today, I went shopping and just brought the jacket along for indoors, leaving it off when I was outdoors.

I wasn't able to reference the aquatic environment too well. I just went with colour and shapes, texture a little.
- Dark muted green in jacket, shades of blue in jeans and T-shirt, with golden sunlight hues also in T-shirt (which is also referencing a different piece of art, as many of you will recognize).
- I had no lilypads, but I did have silver earrings cut into waterlilies --- so I wore those, as the die-cut pattern reminded me of the tracery of veins in the leaves.
- The waterlily shoots are referenced by my strappy black sandals as well the leather thong bracelet. My tangled tresses will have to do for the rest of the pond weed, I guess. :-p
- I'd meant to leave it at that, but in the office I usually bring a scarf. So on a whim, I added the teal/seagreen crinkled long scarf down one shoulder, the Indian traditional way. It *is* a little over the top. But I enjoyed the 'watery' flow and the swirly crinkled ends with the shimmering gold edge. Somehow it evoked the shifting interplay of sun and water to me.

Sorry about weird full-length photo --- wanted you to see the sandals, but was also holding forth in argument with SO.

ETA: a little background... blue and green to echo the water hues. added yellow bag for the lilypads. liked the brown strap on the bag and bronze sandals for the stringy stems effect. feeling fun and casual for dropping DD at preschool and a kids afternoon birthday party at 1 PM.

It was hard to get a pic with true colors that also showed the detail in the jacket, but this one was pretty good. Natalie suggested I wear this dress for today's challenge, and she was so right! For me, the swirly, blue green dress recalls the water perfectly - especially near the top of the photo. The bag, with its rounded yellow main compartment and cognac strap goes well with the water lilies and their stems. The chocolate jacket and tights were mainly worn because the *weather* is not cooperating, but they work with the darker shadows in the photo. For fun, I added a little $1 flower ring to tie in the plant life subject matter.

Gotta post and run -- will be back to comment on everybody's fab looks!

I tried to go with both the colors and the shapes of the lily pads. Teamed my chalet green Halogen seamed skirt with a dark teal Halogen cotton blazer for the water, and my beloved Hinge silk pussy bow blouse for the lily pads. Even though the colors aren't really the same as the photo, I felt like the feeling is similar. Added yellow belt and shoes for the yellow in the photo, and some nude fishnet hose to pick up the texture in the lily pads! And dangly earrings as my nod to the floating vegetation!

This was a fun one!

It fell short of what I was trying to create. The skirt looks like a brighter blue in real life.
Rae, the ochre bag works perfectly for the golden leaves.

Oh the joy of these challenges - they make me see my clothes in a completely new light!

I've had a few ideas for today's outfits, but same as yesterday, in the end I went with my initial inspiration. The photograph made me think of the scarf that stubbornly survives every wardrobe edit, although it's difficult to incorporate it in my outfits. But today in particular I was happy to still have it because, as it turned out, it probably contains every color from the photograph itself, so it was an obvious choice. And I like that the stripes in the scarf address the stringy shoots and busy underwater world.

To represent the water and the background for the scarf I chose the teal shirt. And to add a bit more (water) sparkle and texture, I wore the necklace made of uneven teal-blue-ish beads, which also address another aspect I had picked up - the round shapes of the leaves. Having two prominent pieces of accessories, as in this case both the scarf and the necklace, is a bit much for me, but it actually felt surprisingly comfortable because they were there for a reason.

I'm wearing neutral colored flat shoes, which have small flower on them - not very visible, but I chose them specifically to represent the actual soil underneath all the water.

Worn to school to pick up my son - although covered with the jacket, I knew what I wore, I felt connected to my YLF friends across the globe and that was enough for me.

(For those who asked yesterday, thank you for the waving and I haven't changed my hair, I'm just half way to another appointment.)

I'm sure it will surprise no one that this was my favorite photo of the bunch. Today it is cold and rainy, which necessitated a small adjustment (shoes) but I got to add my raincoat/trench and umbrella, which actually match the theme quite well, so it's all good (wet commute aside).

My mustard jeans, turquoise blazer,teal bag, and green handknit top reflect the colors of the photo. The scarf reminds me of seaweed. The dark grey patent boots provide that hint of bottom-of-the-ocean darkness and their shininess brings to mind reflective water. (Originally, I had planned to wear my black lace-up steve madden boots, where the laces would represent the dark stems, but I switched them for the waterproof option instead.) Even though there are no fish in the photo, I figured my fish bracelet would be appropriate. My shiny blue-faced Movado watch also reminds me of deep water. My blue trench with orange lining also plays very nicely with the photo. Finally, my blue/teal/citron umbrella matches both the colors and shapes of the photo!

Well, my apologies today for the picture quality. Hubs is on duty instead of my daughter and he is not as well practiced! Have to give that man a few lessons!

This is the second picture challenge outing for this dress. Its colours and watery flowers seemed perfect for this photo. But I hadn't yet worn it with my silk shirt. I like how this turned out.

I admit I changed out of the dress and into my jeans after the photos. I am having a work at home day. So I put an olive waffle weave sweater over top of the shirt and added some water-stone beads to evoke some of the reflectiveness and texture of the picture.

The glass earrings are a gift from a friend.

MaryK, like Rae, I will forever see lilypads in that blouse now! Stunning harmonies with the photo, down to your heels --- though of course you're yet another lady with *hair* that fits the theme!

And then there's the perfect coordination of colours and your own lovely knits (that scarf is perfection!) and the glossy watch and all those other little details --- making me sigh very happily. So dreamy!

Suz, you have a talented friend (the earring maker) and a talent for putting together outfits that exude seamless elegance. LOVE the shoes with that dress, which is gorgeousness in and of itself, as dainty as you. This is an outfit that I'd love to frame and hang on the wall right across from the photo itself.

Here's mine...

I chose these pieces for the colors and textures, a sea green color cardigan and the orange color tank underneath. I wore a scarf with all of these colors and the fringe that resembles the tendrills (or whatever those things are) in the water. I rolled my jeans for the feeling of being near water or the beach.

I was thinking about the blue silk dress and citron sash, but I had to add the pants & boots for warmth, since winter returned today.
