Thanks everyone for your responses on the previous thread

I've been thinking how to solve the manage the parings in relation to shipping preferences, as that detail was relevant for some people last year and I thought it was fair to take it into account this year too. However, from reading the previous thread and some of the private messages I've already received, the variations and combinations of all sorts started to emerge, enough to see it's a big asking to sort it all out. Time to be practical.

We'll use Elfster to create the Secret Santa pairs, same as last year (more about that later). Elfster does not offer fine level of managing that would take into account everyone's discrete preferences, and sorting it out manually would take up too much time, so I think the best way is to take into account the fact that majority of the YLF readership, and participants, are US based and with that in mind we can split into two groups - those who want to ship within USA and those who want to ship internationally. Sorry Canadians, Australians and Europeans (this includes me too), but that just seems the most elegant and least time consuming solution.

If anyone has any better suggestion, please speak up.

How To Play

  1. Register with Elfster. If I remember correctly, last year's guideline was to choose the name you use on YLF - this would help avoid any confusion about people's identities.
All the details you put, i.e. postal address, will become visible to your Secret Santa pair ***only*** once the pair are drawn.

  2. Once you are registered, please send me a message here on YLF stating the following:
2.1 <----important---> Your email address, instead of just Elfster name
2.2 Do you want to be added to the group with US-only shipping or US&Int'l shipping.
  3. I'll add you to the relevant group and you'll receive an email invitation from Elfster to be added to the group. Please confirm by doing whatever action is stated in the email (button JOIN IN or similar) that you'll recieve.
  4. On the day when the pairs are drawn, you'll need to check your Elfster account to see who your pair is. Then, it's all down to you
  5. Finally - we all shop, than wrap, than post the parcels, then open, then jump with joy, then post the photos here...

I'll publish the dates for applications' submissions, deadlines for posting and date for presents opening separately.

So, the next action is to hit Elfster and send me the message with your details as described in step 2. above.
