Fudging a bit today & being very literal. I have nothing remotely resembling these clothes in my summer wardrobe. I just wore my simple dark navy dress & my burberry. I couldn't keep the coat on unfortunately:)

I chose a classic Ann Taylor sheath dress and my mother's pearls for today's look.. Yesterday's movie reminded me of my father, today's look reminded me of my mother.. I wrote about it on my blog and am proud of it so if anyone wants they can read about it there... A long day, hoping to sleep in so again posting late night! Going to skip the Metropolis look but will be back for Vertigo

I love this look so much but wondered where could I wear this in my real life? I would substitute my mother's earrings for gold hoops in my real life version...

Is it weird I've choosen a pants outfit for the day's PPC?

I only seldom wear pant outfits but as I couldn't put on my LBD for work, I thought will hon Audrey's iconic black cigarette pants with ballet flats look instead.

Now, mines ar not at all cigarettes, but rather some navy chinos (I think this is the european for khakis, or am I wrong?) and have paired them with some patent loafers instead of ballet flats:-). This is the closer I could go for this.

Top is a shutter pleat cream short sleeve blouse under a black and cream striped cardi.

If I would have been smarter, I would have put on my pearls, too---but it really would have been too much for my office.

PS. I don't know about you, but chinos(khakis) tend to bag out and wrinkle like crazy till end of the day on me....not that good for sitting in them 8-10hours a day...:-(

Lyn, I think the pants really work. Fab outfit!

For my own outfit I wanted to go for a simple, classic look and definitely wear a skirt or dress. So my black skirt was a no-brainer. Then I added my navy turtleneck and a silk scarf to add a bit of color. I wanted to wear my ballet flats, but it's not that warm and there might be rain today, so I ended up with my boots. I'm only wearing watch, specs and earrings, but I changed my usual small silver studs for my pearl ones.

TraceyLiz, this is too good for fantasy life only. You - and that goes for me, too - need to create an opportunity if there are none. You look terrific!

Lyn, you nailed it! True modern classic. Are those loafers Clarks? I have a similar pair in nude patent. I totally agree that the outfits must work in real life, at least for most of the day.

Astrid, you are simply so pretty today. Very true to your style, and at the same time slightly more modern classic than usual. Well done!

I'm not going to pretend that I didn't anticipate this picture perfect challenge in particular. An iconic poster, ditto LBD. This is right up my alley, right? But then again, my life is very remote from Holly Goligthly's, and there's also half a century between us. Her iconic style would simply not work for everyday wear in my life. Still, I had to try, even if it only were for a little while.

#1: My LBD (Boss), trench (BR) and pumps (Clarks), and Grandma's pearls. I've never missed diamonds more than today. My very own Cat joined in, but he is at least twice as big as the original Cat, so there's no way he can sit on my shoulder! Oh, and red lipstick and fingernails, too. My very own Mr. Varjak has left for Italy today - so no kisses, unfortunately. If he were here, he would have loved this outfit.

#2-1: This is what I would have worn if I'd given lessons today. The LBD paired with the apple green blazer, blue scarf and orange wedges (plus red nails) picks up the colors in the poster very nicely. I'll save this for use in the near future.

#2-2: In my real life today I'm working from home. I think my daughters would find it peculiar if I dress up too much for that, and I also prefer a less structured/more casual outfit when I sit by my desk all day. Thus the LBD is layered with a striped blue/white tee, but the orange wedges can stay on, so I can break them in some more.

Conclusion: An LBD is really worth the iconic status, and is among the most versatile garments there is. Thank you, Ornella, for letting me get to play with it this week, too

I am loving seeing all your looks -- so fantastic. I, however, have to skip today as I am going to be hauling rusty oil drums and field equipment from one trailer to another....not really conducive to a LBD and pearls!

Initially I thought I would run to my jewelry box and throw all the sparkly jewelry on in "solemn" tribute. But I have to go to work. So I focused on what I loved in the poster -- color and shape.

Holly Golightly = LBD + pearls + bling + sunnies

Orlly Gigglightly's takes on the formula:

Child-friendly Orlly: The real outfit and official submission for today - what I'm wearing to go and pick up the kid from the kindergarden. LDB with extended sleeves (a.k.a. layering black tee) and an old favorite in the form of megapearl (waving to MaryK and Aida). Sunnies complete the look. There is actually some sun outside, believe it or not, which is strange as I thought our winter gloom would extend until July at least.
Office friendly Orlly: LBD with conservative silk blouse and pearly brooch. Let's pretend I'm wearing low heeled black pumps as all mine are still in the storage.
Opera Orlly: the gloves come out to play at last, and high heeled shoes (incl. patterned nude hose). I'd be sitting in the opera, after all
Wedding guest Orlly: lower heeled shoes so I can dance all night long, nude hose because they have fun pattern and I might be chilly in the evening and big sunnies for all daytime activities.

I could go on and on, but the kid is waiting...

Colder weather today changed my idea for this poster from a sleeveless sheath to tuxedo suit. I decided to go with dressy black and sparkle for inspiration.

Nygaard tuxedo pants and jacket, Target sequined tee, SW heels, necklace from The Rack.

I will probably wear the top part out minus the necklace and change to dark wash jeans and black booties on the bottom.

Ornella, thank you for this challenge and for inspiration to add a different look, already in the closet, to my dressy looks.

I'm guilty of a post and run this AM....

I went with a fav summer LBD and my new dainty bone sandals. I think I'll carry my vintage camel bag and will try to add a photo later. I think we've gone straight from winter to summer here (no topper required) but I am so excited to have my summer dresses out to play.

ETA: Handbag photos. I have rec'd 3 compliments on this IRL while picking kids up from school. Super happiness factor as well!

How do you solve a problem like Holly Golightly?

Those of you who know my style will know that I'm not the type to wear formfitting black sheath dresses, pointy pumps, and pearls. Not to mention the fact that Holly Golightly's getup would be totally inappropriate in lab. Nevertheless, I think her hourglass silhouette is absolutely iconic, and I knew I wanted to recreate it somehow for today's outfit. So how to keep that iconic hourglass shape while still remaining true to my own style and environment? Slouchy cropped pants! These pants actually produce an exaggerated hourglass curve because they are baggy around the hips; I paired them with a fitted scoopneck black tee, a blingy necklace, and even a Cat pendant around my neck. My almond toed black booties are a great substitute for the pointy black pumps which I do not own. I also added the striped cardigan for warmth in the lab; the green and white stripes echo the green stripe at the top of the movie poster.

(I will admit to being ridiculously pleased with myself for my solution to the Holly Golightly problem, and for the outfit itself too!)

Okay, a black dress was a given for today's poster. But it's freezing, so I decided that if I was going to wear a dress, it would have to be with tights. To mimic the poster, I added some white (a new-to-me bag!), and bright colors around the edges.

Also like the poster, I tried to keep the lines simple and clean.

The outfit: black dress with black tights, white bag, green/colorful baubles bracelet, colorful dangly earrings, red ballet flats.

(I tried adding the orange jacket for warmth, but I think it's too halloween-y, so I'm adding a thermal undershirt instead.)

Astrid :: so lovely, that skirt really is worth its weight in gold. Love the hose (no surprises there), and the scarf is beautiful too. And, I'll let you know of the polka-dot hose hunt results. It's end of the season, but that usually brings out a lot of out-of-seasonal still from the storage.

Inspired by the black ballet neck (not as scooped as in the poster, but more like the dress in the movie), sparkles at the neck, and red lips, and an overall feeling of classic elegance and glamour. . . .

Ballet neck tee in black lace knit (made by me),
worn over wine-red ballet-neck layering tee for warmth (Tees by Tina),
ankle jeans in a dark wash (Not Your Daughter's Jeans),
black ballet flats (AGL),
sparkly silver chain necklace, tiny crystal drop earrings, rhinestone bracelet,
purple-framed specs w/ slight cat-eye shape.

For going out, topped with my go-to green trench coat (Gallery),
scarf with greens, blues, and black,
purple gloves,
crocodile-textured bag in taupe-espresso (Brahmin).

I did not want to wear a dress today, so I went with pants. This outfit feels pretty much like "me," although I usually would NOT wear a tee without something over it, or the sparkly jewelry for everyday. So another day of dressing a little differently for me!

Here's my highly impractical contribution... this was not an easy challenge, but I would wear this! I think the hose are indeed a shade too light, but I'm covering them up with a second pair in black because it's 12 and snowing.

TRACEY, ORNELLA, INGUNN - Beautiful, perfect takes. You know, it kinda blows my mind that you guys have LBDs and long strands of pearls. I am so quirky that I don't think I could find either in a store that sold nothing but LBDs and pearls.
UNA - Wow. Also a perfect take, but with the blingy side. Incredibly different from UWP but it fits you. I like the mary janes; I feel they make the look *you.*
FIRECRACKER - I don't think I understood how definitive the ballet-neck is when it comes to the Audrey/Holly look. Very astute, Firecracker. Very astute!

Ok. Ya. As alluded to above, I find Audrey a little stultifying. No question she is lovely and elegant, but I feel el-frumpo in her style of clothing. Perhaps it's because I'm not willowy. Or perhaps it's that her style is so classic, which is so rigidly defined in my mind, I am just not able to play with it. I don't own an LBD or any long strands of pearls or any diamante. So result is, I went for approximating the rigid def.

Amusingly enough, I've been asked if I have a hot date tonight. I find that says a lot about dating and domestication...
