WiW: You can really see my IT shape with this one!

This dress is what I have been referring to as my "travel" dress: it's a simple black knit that's comfortable to wear for plane trips, and it packs well, etc. Wore it today because it is barely cracking 70 degrees. Temperature wise, this was perfect. But wow, with the photos, I fear this dress shows off my IT shape too much? With jacket it's okay, without... do I look like a line backer with no hips?

I was attempting to do the hip-slung belt idea here. This is a belt my daughter left behind when she went to college. I tried it higher, but it wasn't comfortable (especially sitting), so I loosened it up. Any lower and proportionately it looked wrong to me. I don't normally wear a belt with this dress; this was an experiment.

ETA: this dress has ruching down one side, the right side in the photos. I know it's hard to see detailing with black outfits. Just want to point that out so you don't think it's oddly bunching or anything. That is deliberate design. It's this dress, but in black:

I don't think so! I think you look great - the scoop neck and belt draw the eye away from shoulders.

Although the photo is not very clear I don't see the IT tendencies. The dress looks great on you.

I don't see linebacker at all! I do prefer it with a jacket though.

The neckline and belt are flattering and I like the leopard booties with it.

Linebacker? You are so funny. It's a great dress that looks great on you.

The belt is good too, except I find it the wrong length. The end sticks out too far, but not far enough to let you tuck it in somewhere. A shorter belt would work better, I think, because a belt that thick would be awkward to tuck even if it were longer.

I think it looks great both with and without the jacket. I don't see the linebacker at all. I love the booties with it too.

No linebacker here! The scoop neck is very flattering. I like the belt, too, but agree with JR that's it's a bit too long. The jacket is cute with it, but I actually prefer it without. I'm more of a low-contrast person, though, so that's probably why.

I don't see the IT shape very much. You don't look linebacker-like at all! You look well-proportioned. The dress looks nice with or without the jacket.

Great outfit! I have a black jersey dress that is my travel dress, too. (It's my everything dress, actually!) It's so wonderful to be able to throw something like that on and just not worry.

You could never look like a linebacker! The dress looks great with or without the jacket, IMO. I think the belt placement looks good, too. You look beautiful and you have an enviable IT shape!

To be honest with you, whenever anyone here has complained about their big shoulders or IT shape, I have yet to see it in a bad way. I don't even see why IT is a bad thing. Aren't all models IT? Besides that I personally like a strong shoulder line. So anyway, I wouldn't give it a moment's thought--you look great! Sounds like a very practical dress too.

It's a great little dress and it looks terrific on you. As a fellow IT, I think it's the neckline that makes you question it, but actually, it looks great! I think this is how it is supposed to look and you wear it well.

I second your idea of adding a belt. I think you haven't found the right one yet. You might have to invest in one. I see a wider belt, with more details, made for being worn high on the waist. This one is too long and so hangs too low compared to your natural waist.

Jacket and booties here are fabulous with it!

IT yes, linebacker no. Nothin' wrong with an inverted triangle. You look darling in that dress! I like how you've got it with those boots. As for the belt, a thinner one will work better with your dainty hips and petite frame. Could you try finding one that sort of drapes down into a v-shape in the front?

JR, yes the belt is too big. It's my daughter's belt and she normally wears it with low-rise jeans so it goes around her hips, not her waist. Even if she wanted to pass this belt along to me, I wouldn't bother to have it shortened because it's not real leather and last night it made me too sweaty. Add to belt wish list: must be real leather.

Thanks all for the boosts. I am mostly at peace with my shape, after decades wishing I was a pretty pear like my mom and my sister. But every now and then I see a photo and i wish, once again, I had more delicate shoulders and/or curvier hips.

I think ITs have it made in the shade! (Says a pear) and you look fab in this dress.
I like the idea of seeking out a different belt. The borrowed one seems sturdy and stiff and not at home on the form fitting dress.
