WIW: VC Banded Tee & Leather Collared Blazer

I decided it was time to get over my self consciousness and wear the VC teal/black banded tee I bought via NAS. Because it's quite body con, I decided to top it with a blazer. I chose my slightly dressier leather collared tux-style blazer because I don't wear it very often, although love it, and then scrunched the sleeves to bring it down to a wee bit more casual vibe for work. I've paired the blazer and tee with a simple pair of black trousers which amazingly enough, match in black tone to the blazer. So I guess it kind of makes a "pseudo suit".

Footwear consists of my trusty Clarks shooties. This is the style of outfit that I'm considering would be "amped" up by the addition of the Jeffrey Campbell strap-over oxfords with the metal plate heel that I posted.

Jewelry is a chunky mixed metal wrap around bracelet and I'm using one of the fabulous clutches Sona sent me - I love the pattern mix of the snakeskin print with the striped tee and how the darkest teal colour in the clutch matches the teal in the tee.

What do you think? Does it all work? As always, all comments/suggestions welcome.

I love the clutch with the top. The colors go together but they don't "match". The zigzags create a nice back drop for the "suit". I think it's a great shape for your body and another great outfit.

you really did pick the best VC banded top for your coloring. The teal is utterly butterly fab on you. And wowza for getting the clutch to pick up the colors!!

I like this Shannon! The blazer still shows the detail of the top, but if it makes you feel more comfortable so you wear the top, then perfect!

This is so clean and simple and yet so flattering. Is this the way you think your style is heading? You've got colour and texture and pattern, but nothing shouts look at me. I like it!

So fab, Shannon! The jacket looks like a perfect fit and the top is gorgeous, I hope you wear it often. I love the pattern mixing with the zig-zag top and snakeskin clutch. I bet the top and jacket would look good with white trousers/jeans in spring...

Very interesting...I think I commented on that in my outfit post with the green tweed jacket and that is why I questioned keeping it because I wasn't sure that style was still "my" style.

I also recently re-thrifted that winter white 3/4 sleeve swing jacket/blazer that I had because it just didn't feel like me anymore and I had absolutely no desire to ever wear it again.

Ornella - that's quite the challenge! It's been sitting because at my current weight, I did not think it was completely flattering worn on its own (a little too much "exposure" if you know what I mean). However, I decided I'm okay with it as long as there's a topper - so with this blazer, or my black leather jacket or even my black vest or denim jacket. Just not on its own - not yet anyway.

And I was going to say exactly the same thing Angie did - you are moving from retro to more modern.

Guess what? So am I. Is this a function of seeing so many of Angie's great outfits? I wonder. Or is it just tiring of some of the thrift "failures." I really don't know in my case, but I am disenchanted with my more retro pieces (at least many of them.)

I'm not sure where the shift is coming from either Suz - for me, part of it relates to the "fuss factor" as you call it. I'm enjoying a cleaner look with less pieces on so that there is greater ease of movement, no "over heating", and it makes me feel more powerful in a strange way. I also find this new trend to be more figure flattering which is becoming more important to me.

I think there is a danger with retro/vintage looking like a costume and as I'm getting older, I worry more about that. I don't want it to look like I'm actually wearing MY old clothes because I'm now old enough to have worn some of those pieces the first time around - does that make any sense?

Having said that there are still some retro pieces I will always keep and wear/use: my red polka dot silk jacket and my grey vintage patent leather handbag to name a few. These can be incorporated into a modern outfit and will still work IMO. Plus - I just love them!

You look so long and lean in this outfit! I love it on you. These pieces do feel really fresh, especially with the day time clutch. I look forward to the time when I don't have to carry my life around with me and can actually sport a day time clutch!

I think I share some of your concerns, that certain retro or vintage items might simply make me appear dated vs. funky. I also agree that I will always love some vintage items, and other new items that are vintage inspired. My black crepe jacket, even though consigned is not truly vintage. But with its 3 button stance and shawl collar and pleats it seems to have a vintage vibe. Well, I don't care - I love it. I love how it looks on me, and I love it in itself. I will only get rid of it when a much better replacement comes along or when it wears out.

Hmmm. It will be interesting to see where we both take this balance.
