I suppose they're my wardrobe backbone neutrals for a reason! I ended up wearing grey wool trousers & a navy wool sweater two days in a row, so I thought it'd be interesting to show them together.

Yesterday, I wanted to wear my moon necklace, and I fancied keeping a fairly dark neutral background for it to shine on. But I don't particularly like myself in a column of colour, so I knew I wanted to break it up in the middle. I haven't worn a sash in awhile, and I thought it might be fun to combine a boho element with the sleeker pieces, so sash it was! I took up MuseumGal's suggestion of a braid to add another boho touch. Unfortunately, I forgot to take photos until after the sun set, hence the hideous lighting (I never use the overhead light in my usual life, preferring lamps, but I needed its brightness for the photos). I tried switching where I stood, but then it cut my feet off, so you get one of each. If you're wondering why there's packing paper attached to my wall, I spent yesterday creating a 'gallery wall' style display, and the papers stand in for where I want to add photographs I've taken but haven't ordered the prints yet! It's less chaotic looking as a whole, and looks far better in regular light, at least I hope so. I wore the same coat both days, so I only photographed it once.

Today, it was 3 degrees (F/-15 C) out when I was getting dressed, so wool trousers were definitely in order! I opted for my tweed pair, for a bit of a change, and then this polka dot silk blouse called to me. The wool navy cardigan seemed an obvious topper, my little hedgehog clamoured to come along, and the silk belt finished things off. I also added my soft white/light cream handknit socks to echo the blouse, but they've mainly been hiding in my slippers all day! For outerwear, I opted for my very warm vintage German loden wool coat, with optional cape buttoned on. I wear it with the cape when it's below around 15F & it adds a surprising amount of warmth! I also just read an graphic novel called Through the Woods by Emily Carroll, which includes an illustration of a woman in a blue hooded cape walking through a stark wintry woods. As I was headed out for a ramble in the woods, I couldn't resist adding the optional hood as well. Before I've always just worn one of my knit hats, but it wasn't too windy out, so the hood worked fine. I still prefer the extra ear warmth of a hat though! Anyway, I grabbed my snow boots & tucked my trousers in in case I encountered any rogue snow banks (luckily I was fine!), even though I think the sportier styling doesn't go as well with this coat. But needs must!

Feedback, positive & negative, welcome as always! This winter has seen me wearing these wider trousers a lot, and I've developed a real addiction for them, after a couple years of skinnies as my primary trouser silhouette. In fact, I can't remember the last time I reached for my skinnies; straight leg is as fitted as I've gone over the past couple of months. As I'm fairly new to styling such pieces, do let me know what works/doesn't/any styling suggestions! Or if you prefer one of these versions to the other one, I'd love to hear why.
