WIW to the Sunday matinee: Homage to modgrl!

I have been dying to wear one of my bright Halogen seamed skirts with the famous Target chambray shirt ever since I saw our own modgrl rock it here: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....fever-pink

I adopted the braided belt idea from her, and added the Jessica Simpson snakeskin shoes in a mashup with another fab chambray-and-bright-skirt combo here: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....irt-owners, which also had a (now-vanished) link to somebody rocking a magenta skirt with a chambray top. This is the first outing for the purple-magenta skirt and I'm so happy I stalked and stalked until it finally showed up in the petite sizes!

I have been thinking about this outfit for weeks but didn't really have an occasion to wear it. Contrary to popular belief, I do have some self-imposed limits on work wear, and "no denim at work" is one of my few rules. And the seamed pencil skirt is generally too dressy for knocking around on the weekend. But today we have tickets to the theatre, for which the combo will be perfect!

Oh, and the hair is a shoutout to all you RATE girls out there. If this isn't RATE hair, I surely don't know what is! LOL

I'm delighted by how it all turned out! What do you all think?

MaryK, you are so fabulous! I love your "Inspired by..." posts because even though the idea may have been someone else's, you turn it into a totally MaryK outfit. I totally love copying your style too, can't you tell?

I love this outfit...why couldn't you wear this to work? It certainly seems very polished to me! RATE hair or not!

This looks great (and the inspiration outfit on modgirl was great, too). Nice color combo and wonderful balance of dressy and casual. Makes me wonder if I can adapt this to my grey Halogen skirt (won't be as colorful, but still...).

Thanks, everyone! We saw a show called "Poor Behavior" and really enjoyed the heck out of it! We went early because we'd heard there would be traffic tie-ups and enjoyed a nice lunch at the patio bar. Big fun!

Goldenpig, I could probably wear the chambray shirt to work and nobody would bat an eye, but I have this crazy idea that doing so would say "It's okay for everybody to wear denim to work," and that's definitely not the case so I just don't want to go there. Probably just me over-thinking things, as usual!

Stay strong on the "no denim to work" personal policy! I agree that it could open some floodgates that you don't want to deal with. Plus, you have pullenty of non-denim clothing to choose from

Mary I LOVE love this look! The black belt is my favorite detail, and snakeskin pumps are just perfectly paired here. The color palette here is superb, monotone (chambray, gray, black) with one deep and somewhat muted color (magenta). My kind of outfit, I would so very happily wear this

Great outfit! The chambray shirt dresses down the skirt nicely. I do agree, if you wear denim once to work it may open floodgates that would be very hard to close. This is a lovely weekend outfit.
